Latest revision (726) as always in VICE 3.1. There never is a sound with the break-extra (when leaving the level to the right). I specifically checked both digis and normal sound.

Edit: This sound at 13:58 specifically: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Th-Z6QQ5AOQ&t=13m56s

Also found an error in the docs:

# Title screen keys

* A, S, D, F: Move screen around.

Should be H,J,K,L instead

Well, looks like everything got fixed with 736 – sound is good with the latest VICE built from the repo.

Am not too sure when the bonuses appear but I hope it got very much like the original.

Can't say if it works now, since I never got a B-block anymore in the last 20 minutes of play :( While this may be realistic, for testing purposes can you go back to the old behaviour?

Edit: Finally got a B-block. No sound effect at all. Latest VICE as always

No.

But you can pick your bonuses with rev. 739 (key 0 (random) or 1-7) :)

I tried on my real VIC with Rev 736 for 20 minutes just now. No B-block appeared. Also I never saw a P-block in the last 45 minutes (real and emulated).

I've barely managed to complete the first level this way. Really frustrating... Although I use paddles, at some time the ball just gets too fast to be able to honestly catch it. Before with all the B- and P-bocks I could at least see more levels. Like this, there is no way I would ever see levels after 3 or 4...

Will check rev 739 now. Edit: Ok, checked. Picking the extras work fine. However still no sound effect for the B-block when exiting the level... even on real hardware.

#750 is out. Most notable thing is probably the splash screen with countdown for the tape version.

#753 (with the new digis) is now available for download: http://hugbox.org/pixel/software/vic-20/arukanoido/

Lots of things broken again. %p

Rev. #815 is out at http://hugbox.org/pixel/software/vic-20/arukanoido/

The obstacles are now circling around at the bottom of the screen (lots more to be done) and it's easier to catch the ball when it hit one. Also, the D bonus is working again.

Much more fun to play!

High quality arcade digis will be made available for Utlimem, FE3, Megacart(?) and McCes' "Vic adaptive" – audio decompression in the tape loader is working so far. If there isn't any of those expanders you can choose beamrider's tunes or have in-games sounds replaced by the arcade ones.

Probably not. Thanks a bunch… but I must admit that just that message doesn't help a lot. Will give the cart version some extra testing.

Did I mention that I'll never ever set a release date for a game again? :D

With rev. #850 there's now the first game making use of the Ultimem. Loads high quality sounds from tape and decompresses them on the fly. Ups the loading time to three and a half minutes.

Yes, it got some bugs. ;)

Ultimem-digis sound way nicer than the other ones (which are still more annoying than adding to the fun). Any reason why Ultimem is for tape only? Would love to have this work with SD2IEC-drive, would load faster as well ;-)

I noticed the keys to test the extras do not work any more (I was trying to see if the "Break"-sound now works).

What memory does the game use now? Still +24K? I would think +32K would be fair game, maybe even +35K. Limiting yourself to +24K makes no sense really. Even in the old days, you either had +3K, +8K, +16K or +32K.

+35K has only been made popular recently and just a few apps use it, I can only think of Doom, the Infocom-adventure interpreters and Mike's CGA-viewer.

If you want to make an Ultimem-version you can also use the 2K I/O-block at $9800. When plugging in the Ultimem this should be fair game.

32K is sensible, but I think 35K is a bit too far if you can avoid it. I guess many users have those cheap 32K expansions that were on EBay for a few years.
