Looking for Salmon Run

Post by otherside »

I'm looking for the game Salmon Run by Synapse. I owned the tape when I was young but I'm afraid it's unreadable. Did anyone else play this game? Very fun!

Salmon Run is available for download as TAP image from Arma's site in "S" section - http://www.timsplace.plus.com/vicimages.htm

I never heard of this site! Pretty neat, it needs to be added to the links list.

Thanks, that was what I was looking for. However, I can't figure out how to run it in WinVICE. loading it with shift-runstop finds "salmon run" and begins loading but then gets some weird characters on the screen. Suggestions?

If you see wierd characters on the screen while loading you may need to add memory expansion to the VIC, or if its already expanded you might want to remove it.

It loaded up for me in Vice and played music after reaching counter number 79.

There were no garbage characters on screen using unexpanded Vic-20 settings.

I haven't had time yet to transfer to tape and try on real hardware.

I can only ask here to check if you are actually launching the X64 program by mistake (the C64 emu) and not the XVIC program ;)

Thanks! Looks like it has to run in the unexpanded VIC. Adding even 8k expansion causes the garbage characters. I had a 32k expansion card with my real VIC and don't remember having to unplug it to play. In any case, I was able to load and play it in WinVICE.

Probably your 32K expansion was switchable in some way, so you could switch out block by block or it all. The reason for the garbage characters is because the memory map is ordered differently when you add expansion memory: the video matrix is located where beginning of programs normally is, and where you normally would find the video matrix is regular memory.
