..but hey, If you all buy it, it sells more than 20. :D
Millions here I come..

But seriously. I made few games for C16 and I recognised that even C16/Plus4 has more audience than VIC.

Our friendly computer is a marginal device.

EDIT: I saw an article about PC indie game which sold less than 150. World is a weird place.

that's a bit unexpected since the Vic-20 sold more: ~2.5 million vs <1 million

Duh! Smells like the old habit of piracy. :(

C16/Plus4 scene is well-organised and it could explain why new games get more attention. Or maybe it is only illusion..

The biggest seller probably is Canabalt through RGCD, which has sold around 350 copies to date. Many of the others have probably sold 50-100 copies each.

Received my tape from Cronosoft today. It plays really well with a TAC-2 joystick on CRT TV! Almost all aspects of the game are outstanding:

The music :D
The jingles in between levels - a great touch!
The two-way scrolling ... pretty smooth and parallax
The aesthetics: bas-relief in monochrome and single color mode make it so unique-looking. I'd wager that we would have seen lots of UK-games in this style if the Vic development hadn't ended prematurely due to the C64. I LOVE to see new games try roads not travelled during the commercial era. The style of Super Starship is so different both from the old US cartridge (Atari VCS-like)-style and from the old UK and German more Pet-like style. This is more ZX Spectrum a la 1985 with some shades of the C64 and the arcade. And the atmosphere is strange and evil and , not retro cozy and cute. I love retro cozy and cute, but for this game strange and alien is just right.

Only thing I can find a fault with is the font which I sometimes find hard to read. Would also have been neat to see your score during play so that you get some feedback and learn the score mechanics.

It will be a real challenge to complete all the 11 levels - but I'll give it my best shot 8)

Thanks,

Real VIC and old TV bring the real feeling and you're right. Font is hard to read, I tried too much and I was too "artistic".

My next game has same monochrome spectrum look. But I have to finish it first (so many features).

btw,
Finnish game site dome.fi made an article about my game : http://dome.fi/peli/uusi-peli-vic-20lle ... -suomesta/

Super Starship Space Attack got a glowing review in issue 1402 of Micro Mart in the UK last month.

The individual ratings for the game were:
  • Graphics 8/10
    Sound 8/10
    Presentation 7/10
    Value for Money 10/10
    Overall 9/10
I think the final paragraph says it all:
It's hard to believe that any game could pack so much into the Vic 20 as this. Bearing in mind the hardware limitations, this may be the best game we're ever going to see for this machine period. Buy it immediately!

Great to hear that you haven't abandoned the Vic in favor of the C16/+4, Misfit!

Furthermore, I must add that I also really like the concept and mechanics of Super Starship. The destructible terrain is unusual on the Vic and there is something very neat about player-controlled 2-way scrolling in a game where you are forced to go forth and look for things before you can return - and escape the level.

If somebody wants to read the review : http://www.everygamegoing.com/landing/i ... ttack.html

First you invent a most retarded game title ever and now magazines write reviews about it. :D Why I never learn?

But hey! I got more motivation to create the next VIC-20 game! Thanks all!

I was put off by the lack of reviews for this great piece which is absolutely one of my favourites and I'm glad that it finally gets the praise it deserves. :D

I finally had a go at this on my real VIC 20. It's a great game, pity I'm rubbish at it. Well, I'll just have to practice!
