German Magazine - Type-Ins - Happy Computer

Post by tokra »

I'll continue with posting german magazine type-ins. Coming up is "Happy Computer". From November 1983 until January 1985 they published some VIC-20 games and applications. I will leave out some of the applications unless they have some interesting value. Nobody needs the 100th character-editor for example.

November, 1983:

BOXKAMPF (+8K): A boxing game. Use keys A,L,B. According to the magazine this should run on an unexpanded VIC as well if you leave out all REM-statements.
Image

ADRESSEN (+8K): An address-database with german umlauts.

UFO-JAGD (+8K): A version of Tank vs Ufo. Use keys Z, C and F7 to shoot
Image

REGENBOGEN (+8K): A game kind of like checkers. You need to move one of your diamonds to the top row. You may only move to a square that shares a color with one of the computer's pieces. However you may cheat ONCE.
Image

WURMSPIEL (unexpanded VIC): Pick up 15 pieces of food. Move with U (down), L (left), R (right) and O (up). (the most insane keyboard mapping ever)

Thanks Tokra! I see there were a lot of German magazines for the VIC back then... way more than in Italy :( . I look forward to adding these new games to the "German mag" folder of my FE!

The programmer probably went by the first letter of the german words for down (unten) and up (oben).

January, 1984:

http://www.tokra.de/vic/happycomputer/8401/8401.zip

AUTORENNEN (unexpanded VIC): Place a bet on which car will go through the finish line first.
Image

BRENNBALL (unexpanded VIC): A baseball-simulator! Press F1 to start. Then press either F3 or F5 to move your player for the strike. Hit F3 or F5 once the ball is near your bat and keep holding F3 or F5 to make your player move. Make sure you stop moving once you are at a flag (diagonally at the corners) or you will be out once the ball has been returned to the first red player.
Note: This game looks like it could be stolen from an american magazine, because baseball is not really well known here in Germany. Can someone confirm this?
Image

BLACK-JACK (+8K): Play Black Jack against the VIC.

Nice work! I remember the games you posted first (esp. Tank vs UFO), but not this one. Must have missed that magazine.

Actually, I remember playing Brennball at school in Hannover which was somehow similar to Baseball (or Cricket), but didn't involve a bat. So it must be known in Germany.

Well, yes, we had "Brennball" in school as well (northern Germany), but this VIC-20-game clearly has a bat and looks a lot like baseball. That's why I thought it may have been stolen by the author from an american magazine as was the case more than once actually.

Brennball is listed in GB20 as a Commodore release from 1982. So it could even be that, the screenshot looks the same.

Gotcha! I knew something was fishy, it is the exact same game, apart from renumbering and these lines missing in the type-in:

Code: Select all

1 poke37150,2:poke788,194
2 print"{clr}{2 down}(c) 1982 commodore electronics ltd."
3 fori=1to5000:next
