Vic20 game written, game gets added to GB20 regardless heh. But this is quite challenging at least...

I got a chance today to play this for a while, but never made it past level 5. The title screen looks very nice. Hope to see more works from you in the future.

I just downloaded cbmPrgStudio and started learning it. The goal is to complexify the game and porting the section critical for speed to assembler so it stays speedy enough. Some changes I want to implement:

1- High resolution for the game
2- Smoother movement than full blocks (but probably not full sprites as I don't know how to do them)
3- Different things to eat, such as
- Cherrys : like actual hearts
- Apples : leave their core behind, which eventually grow into trees
- Bananas: leave skin behind on which you can slip
- Some pathways in the border (left-right and up-down)
Which will gradually appear as you progress through the levels
4- More than 1 life
5- Better sound (music?)
6- Some slow moving enemys
7- Bonus levels
8- Additional lives after some levels
9- Score is variable depending on the time taken between "bites"

Any additional ideas anyone?

Hi Phil.
Very ambitious project.

Glad to see more objects and enemies in the game.
Just keep your good work.

I personally about to learn me cbmPrgStudio and working at a small breakout game.
It's incredibly relaxing to work with 8 bit basic programming even though my family think I'm nuts.
Kind regards, Peter.

My wife thinks I'm crazy. The kids think that daddy making a video game is cool, even if the game is prehistoric looking!

If only it was as easy to do video games for Windows!

Hi Phil

Do you know Dark Basic (for windows), not as simple as Vic20 basic but fair:

I have played with this years ago, and did manage to produce a small unfinished submarine scrolling game.
Kind regards, Peter.

Thanks. I didn't know this one.
I played with "gamemaker" which is nice and I've done a lot of C++ without graphics, but the frustration to me is that it seems like you're always looking for routines/functions that other developped for anything (sprites, joysticks, windows calls, library functions, DirectX, etc) instead of trying to be creative. Not as fun. Maybe I need to follow a course with a real teacher!

Back to the Vic 20 for now

Best regards

Gameplay very like the old "Lightbikes" or "Snake" I guess. I used to hate playing those on a joystick TBH!
I like it. :D

I like this, thanks!

Do you have any type of counters to know how many time it has been played?

Mayhem: same thing, do you have any counter?

Best regards!

I have tried the online game, but found it extremely slow (it took several seconds only to display the title screen, don't know if it's the emulation, the browser, the internet connection or all) so I obviously will not comment on it.

As a PERSONAL opinion, even back in those days I have always thought that control schemes like WASZ or IJKM were a very poor solution that required prestidigitizers' abilities, and wondered why they were so extensively used instead of more convenient control schemes like AZ for vertical movent plus KL for horizontal movement, plus eventually the always-handy horizontal bar for fire (or ZX-MK-hor.bar if preferred). Just a humble suggestion.
GOD is REAL. Unless declared DOUBLE PRECISION.
