Gold Rush & Gold Rush Redux

Post by GreyGhost »

I scanned this one in the other day. Then I checked the compute disk archive and saw this one in there. I thought to myself "damn". Then I noticed it was a different block size on disk. I checked it and it turns out that the version on the Compute disk was unfinished. So, Yay for me.
I also liked this game so much I added graphics and crunched the code a bit.
Hope you guys enjoy.

$606.00

It's amazing what custom graphics can do to improve a game. Fun! Thanks for sharing this.

This is already in GB20, have you checked the version there to see if it is the "complete" one published in Compute? It certainly seems like a spruced up version of the original you have on the disk image, with colours and a difficulty choice. Maybe that was someone "improving" it too, I don't know.

Do you have a programmer name and a year for the game btw? :)

Yes, this is a nice twist on the typical randomized maze screen.
Thanks for scanning and enhancing!

Ok, the first file on the disk is the version that was in Compute magazine July 1982. The second version is the one I did Feb 2010. heh.

I also checked out the version on GB 20. I know nothing about that one, but I have implemented the difficulty level from it and added it to my graphics version. Basically the difficulty level controls the amount of dirt versus gold. I will be posting it later.

Thanks for that, I'll replace the version I have with the first file on the disk then (I'm looking to preserve the "original" as published you see). I'll probably put the remix into GB20 as well because it does make the game a lot better with proper graphics. I'll await the updated file.

Who originally wrote it btw? I don't have access to the Compute issues...

If you want it to work on unexpanded Vic take out the Remarks. I did that for the last update, but i then said what the heck. I actually kinda like the little notations. This version uses the difficulty rating selection found in the version in GB 20.

Cheers... what's your name so I can add a quick credit to the Redux version for GB20? :)

Oh yeah? How many entries does he have in the GB20? You win. :)
