The Games of Denial Online

Post by Boray »

Edit:

This is how it looks so far: http://user.tninet.se/~jad615g/gamesofdenial/

Keep sending me your games, or PM me and and say where to download.

Ok, now that I have made my own games page (
http://user.tninet.se/~jad615g/viconline/ ), I don't think it will be too much trouble to make and host another one for the best games from the Denial members... The page will look something like mine, but not exactly like it.

Send me an email:
Image

including:

1. The games you want on the page. Only single file games will work. You have to be the author of the games. By sending me the games, you give me the right to make them available on the web page in question. If you change your mind however, you can tell me to remove your games from the page again.

2. A priority list of the the games you are sending. Depending of how many who wants to be part of this, I could decide to include for example 4 games from each user.

3. A little info text for each game on how to play it. It's for the little info box you can see in the right bottom corner of my page. Here you can include a link to your homepage or something if you like. I might modify this text to get a coherence to the page.

4. Your name/alias here on Denial.

Note:

* I have the right to choose to not include something if I like. (In case someone sends me a porno game or something ;-) )

So... Who is in?

Why not? I would be happy to see my games (or my conversions from PET) playable online. :D

Sounds like a great idea to me. Maybe there could be a High Score Board open to members of Denial? A little competition might help encourage play... :)

I'm not sure how to do that... I could add a guest book where people could write their high scores maybe?

I have not been able to get the online emulator to work - any suggestions for the best browser and/or configuration would be appreciated

On Windows, it works with Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Google Chrome, Maxthon.

Safari works on Mac but not on Windows.

You need a computer that is relatively fast. I have got reported that it works on an AMD 3800+ but I would recommend a dual core processor.

You need to have Java installed...

Saving high scores from the game although not technically impossible would be very hard. Either the game and the emulator or the emulator would need to be modified to retrieve the score from the game. Then that would need to be passed to some database that the page pulls from to display the high score. It is also technically possible to have the emulated game load the high score from that database. However doing this is very difficult.
Change is inevitable except from a vending machine.

I'd rather just have a sticky thread for high scores because many of us will be making them on a real machine as well as an emulator.

If we kept the number of games to 20 or so it would be fun to try and pull the high scores from the emulator. It would be easy enough to use the file name and monitor the program counter to detect the game over situation, then pull the high score from some memory locations. I think that would work for 99% of games. Then a button on the web page "Record high score" could query the emulator for the score. I have no idea how to handle the web page side :)
To get the score back into the game - and again, I don't know how to get the score from the database - it could just start with a command including the high score on the command line, then the game monitors the program counter, waiting for the game to start up, and hacks the score into the appropriate location.

I'm not sure it's a great idea to pollute the source, but hey, who's the emulator for if not for us?

Nice, someone wants to play Pong online with me ?

I've sent you the old pong version for 2 players only, I will send you the latest version for 1 player too...

PS: The correct name of my Tetris version is "Tetris+"

Just a curiosity about Tetris+

Default best scores (Classic and Arcade mode) are real scores of me, Carlsson and Nippur72.

Before to write the definitive version, I've started a small competition between us with just one play for both modes and the game reports on the hi-scores table our real scores :D
