Jumpman

This classic from Epyx was one of the best platformers for Atari 8bit and C64.

Single screen, no scrolling, quite simple graphics.

Should be possible to make for Vic 20?

I would say that should be fairly doable in either 'c' or 6502.

I have nothing against new versions of classic games trying to improve them. Like Robert Hurst Quickman for exemple.

I looking forward to the "perfect" version of Centipede, Missile Command or perhaps Joust. Galaxians, Galaga, Atari Sprint, Robotron, or any other real fun arcade game that's possible to do on Vic 20.

There's lot of break out games for Vic 20 but no descent version of Arkanoid? The fun part in Arkanoid is the power up's that gives you special powers when knocking down the bricks. Arkanoid was released for just about any system, except Vic 20. Perhaps it's time for Arkanoid on Vic 20? If it's possible and if anyone feel tempted to do it in the future.

And remember, the most fun games is often the real simple ones that makes you say, just one more go...i rather play an improved fun classic arcade game then a new made so so title to be honest. Not to be said that new games can't be awesome fun too off course if they are well made. But it takes a whole lot of skill to make a new game that reach the same level as many of the old classics.

It's a shame there is no decent top-down racing game like Sprint for Vic, while even ZX81 has a great looking clone. A scrolling top-down racer like Intellivision's Auto Racing or Rally Speedway for C64/Atari computers would be even better (but perhaps not a realistic wish).

Yesterday, I was having a lot of fun with the Theater of War Trilogy by Ghislain. I have developed through the years a peculiar attraction to wargames, particularly to historically accurate ones.
I was wondering if any skilled programmer here, starting from the author of these wonderful games, could start from the game engine, and create a simulation of historical battles (multiple-choices at start menu?). The look and feel, as well as game mechanics and tactics, would remain the same. Only, terrain would reproduce the real battlefield, and units would be already partially deployed (except for possible reinforcements), respecting the real formations at the beginning of the battle. Catching the "flag" - i.e. killing enemy general(s) and destroying headquarters - would remain the main objective, but secondary targets such as conquering cities, cross a border, or breaking enemy lines, could also be introduced.

Of course, poor VIC resolution detracts from historical accuracy, but if the initial game is well balanced, one can try and do better than actual generals, and possibly change the course of the war :P

Hah,

My first "real" game was a strategy game for DOS (1998)
Well, I should decide what I should do with my new 32k memory expansion. But who knows? RPG or strategy or RPG strategy or action..?

If it's not action, perhaps something with one of those crazy new graphics modes?

Bubble Bobble

Another arcade hit that's been ported to every washing machine out there. Cute dinosaurs spitting bubbles and collecting treats to finally vanish the Super Drunk. Not me! Hands off! Sheesh! 100 levels first! http://www.adamdawes.com/retrogaming/bbguide/

Four CPUs were toiling away to bring 256 colors on a 32x28 tile grid with 128 sprites. http://www.spriters-resource.com/arcade ... eet/14077/ The C64 version works around the sprite problem by drawing software sprites which are updated only every third frame.

But if you think the graphics are the main problem on the VIC you couldn't be further off. Although things seem to happen at random BB is built with an interwoven set of rules and timers that make it kind of predictable, magic and addictive. http://tjasink.com/games/bb/bb-stuff.txt

My suggestion: 5x8 pixel tiles (20x28 chars) hires. The 10x16 pixel sprites will make this a very special programming experience.

Oh, BTW: Taito lost the source code. m)

Perhaps a Mini Bubble Bobble would be more doable. No matter how simplified, in my eyes it would still be really, really cool. Ahh, that sprite sheet and all those delicious goodies...

Dig Dug, which has a very similar graphical style, suggests that a multi-color version could look good. Bandits, with 40+ sprites on the screen and lots of well drawn goodies, suggests that a single-color could work well.

Neat! And keeping me thinking. Has it ever been done on the vic before? I won't do bubble bobble next. Am thinking about another action shooter. 'repulse' won't get out of my system...

I know there is a Pitfall adaption.

Should be possible to implement those games on the VIC.
