I think a Vic-20 port would be of a similar standard albeit with blockier graphics, perhaps the sound would be better. It might even be possible to port the C64 version replacing the level data (for 22 columns) and the sprites with software sprites.

I don't think there is any shortage of games waiting to be ported to the Vic, availability of developers is the bottle neck.
I quite agree, and wish that I could help.

My personal choice goes to Burger Time and Sabre Wulf (second one is way more difficult to port...)

Yes good suggestions.

Tapper is another one missing on the Vic.

I second Chuckie Egg for the VIC-20. I have fond memories of that game on the C64 and would love to see it on the VIC.

I was looking through the games for the vic, and there's a glaring ommision. No Beat em Ups.

Correct me if I'm wrong, this could do with a "scrolling" beat-em-up like Double Dragon or Golden Axe.

One problem is only one fire button so only punching no jumping, unless maybe you could do a jump kick if you hold down fire for a second.

indeed.

There was one being worked on at one stage, but it seems to have gone quiet.

Hopefully my motivation will come back :)
but making the background graphics isn't an easy task with graphics and number of characters limitation. :?

Agreed. Both solid choices. I'd add Ghosts'n Goblins and Green Beret to that list, though not strictly beat-em-ups..

Sopwith, the MSDOS classic as far as I know it's only been ported to the Nintendo DS

Yes, and YES...

Actually most of the early C64 Activision titles would make great candidates for conversion for the Vic.

I've been playing around making sprites in Paint Shop pro.
Would like to make a Japanese style side-scrolling shoot em up in High-Colour mode but I barely know anything about Basic nevermind assembler which would probably be needed.

But I can make mock-up pictures. (Don't think I have the colours of the high-colour mode quite right, but almost)
