Omega Race didn't use real Vector graphics, though. Those are just bitmap graphics drawn in a vector style. For real vector polygons, see the VIC-20 game "Black Hole". Unfortunatly, it's a bit slow when there are a lot of objects on screen.

VicUser would love you for this suggestion.

Is Vic User an RPG or Intellivision fan?

Both, but his favourite game is Temple of Doom for the Intellivision.

Haven't seen him around here in a while.

Tower Defence. That should be pretty doable. Simple graphics, simple layouts, simple fun. :)

Oh, I forgot Treasure of Tarmin. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8T5j44PUu7c

I love the alternating wall colors that give a sense of movement, the map that can be pulled up, the various objects and great number of retro-looking monsters, and the fact that there is actually an end goal.

Oops. Seeing it now, Treasure of Tarmin is VICuser's favourite game. I got it mixed up.

yeah, swords and serpents was cool!

I loved the top down view.

Imagic had some real good games for the Intelli.

Woud love to play the Dracula game around Halloween!

Weird Treasure of Tarmin was just mentioned.

I was going to play a bit of that, or B-17 Bomber, this evening!

I just watched a Video of Shredz64, being a big Guitar Hero/Rock Band fan I was really impressed by the game.

I know we don't have SID, but the thought of Shredz20 makes me drool :D.

Anyone else?

I have been playing a lot of Joust versions as of late... not on VIC 20, though. Has there ever been a port?

Hmmm ... I'm trying to envision code that can emulate the pterodactyl screech. 8)

Yeah, I thought of that, too. However, I don't think that Shredz developer Toni Westbrook is a VIC-20 programmer.

Space taxi was always great. I made a clone on the pc years ago in C. I am trying to get vice set up and see if I can maybe do something on there. Are there any good Assemblers for vic you can run on SD card with memory expansion(Maybe tedious)? I know the vic has no sprites so I guess I will have to study up on this to see how others produce smooth moving objects. I think that would be a great game on the vic.

IMO cross-developing, with DASM or ca65, is the way to go. The section 'Emulation and Cross Development' deals with these topics.

Robert Hurst's Triple-S system has been successfully used by himself to write games like Quikman, Omega Fury, Berzerk MMX, Break-Out!, and Sprite Invaders so this might be worth a look.

Pooyan

Post by beamrider »

I would love to see Pooyan ported to the Vic. It should be fairly achievable as there wasn't that much going on screen at once and the graphics are fairly simple.

Pooyan, Popeye and Jumpan Junior

Post by Spectrum »

Yes. Pooyan is a very good idea, I think.
I am not a programmer, but I'm a decent graphic... I don't know if my help can be needed.

In any case, when I was a kid I was a big fan of Popeye. I remember I really wanted to have a port of that game on the Vic. On cartridge, maybe. I remember that the Parker Brothers port on C64 was quite bad.
A friend of mine who got the Colecovision had a better version of it.
So, Popeye would be a must, I think. A three-stages classic platform game.

Another game I loved was Jumpman http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumpman

Well, to be honest, I played Jumpman Junior on Colecovision (at my friend's) and I loved it. I think that an expanded Vic could handle a Jumpman Junior port, what do you think about that?

There are a couple of Pooyan clones on the Vic20, "Outback" springs to mind.
