Rigel Attack

Post by Orac »

Hi, it only took me 40 years, but I've finally finished my first ever VIC game. :)

It's a fairly standard shoot-em-up with a bit of asteroid dodging thrown in. I didn't want to be too ambitious first time out. Unfortunately I don't currently have a VIC 20 so it has only been tested in VICE. There's absolutely nothing technically astounding so hopefully it will run OK on the real thing.

It requires an 8K expansion and a joystick. There are separate versions for PAL or NTSC. Please let me know if you manage to try it and have any issues.

That's a great game, fast-paced, nice level progression with several types of baddies. Really well-done!

Works perfectly on real hardware (NTSC), too!

Thanks chysn and Rich! It's not a large game but it's great to hear that it will provide a bit of short term fun for fellow VIC fans. Also great to hear it works on real hardware too! :D

Nice and enjoyable game, thanks for writing it and sharing it with us! 8) I'm having fun going throgh the levels and see what kind of aliens will come next, and in which pattern!

I don't know wether you're still managing to touch-up the game after 40 years in development :D however I think I remember the topic of self-detecting PAL/NTSC games has been re-discussed recently on these boards, you might want to add that feature. Also, the meteor-dodging stage ends to be very silent (as there's nothing to shoot at), perhaps a "wooosh" sound as meteors pass by might fill that silence.

Thank you very much, it's always thrilling to see new quality games such as yours released for the VIC-20!!! 8)
GOD is REAL. Unless declared DOUBLE PRECISION.

Thanks highinfidelity and thank you playing the game. Yes, you're right about the meteor stage. I did try some sound effects ibut I couldn't find anything I liked so I settled for relaxing silence. :D

I will definitely have a browse on the PAL/NTSC threads here. Thanks for that. Too late for this game I'm afraid. I'm now working on the next one. :)

Congrats for this game, it was a surprise to me, it's as if the shmup genre had been neglected on the Vic after Pulse.

Thanks for playing it javierglez.

Pulse is a great shooter indeed! I have played that a fair bit.

I think there will always be people making shoot-em-ups for the VIC. Plenty of life left in it yet. :D
