VIC-20 Terminal program questions

Post by napabar »

For the moment, I need a Terminal program for an unexapnded VIC-20.

I know of three options.

1. VICTERM I. This shipped with the original Commodore modem that plugged into your phone to do the dialing. It is written in ML, but supports no dialing from the software. I have this, and it's useless because of that.

2. Commodore had newer terminal program out later called, confusingly, VICTERM I. This was for newer modems that supported direct dialing. It is at least partially written in BASIC, and you'd store your dial numbers in line numbers of the BASIC program.

3. AUTOTERM. This shipped last with the Commodore Automodem. It also runs on an unexpanded VIC-20. I've used this one before back in the day, but no longer have it.

Does anyone know where to download #2 or #3?

Thanks!!

I got a VIC-Modem for Christmas as a kid and I remember there being a type-in terminal program in the back of the manual. It was basic, with supported ML data statements. I do remember it working though! Maybe if you locate a manual you could type it in :)

I don't see any ML, but it's a VIC-20 type-in terminal.

Sorry to bump an old thread.
But was there ever a terminal program for the vic20 that supported file transfer?

KERMIT was ported to just about every system ever made but not the VIC it seems.

I haven't found anything that can do file transfers yet but I found PLUS/Term that does most things well and works with my 1200 baud modem.

docs:

2 bug fixes that are not in the version on Zimmers

https://www.atarimagazines.com/compute/ ... APUTE!.php

Also if you use it to connect to a unix machine vic20 is no longer supported in terminfo. The source mentions it was removed and put in a long forgotten "UFO file". I found the UFO in a .gz file and mirrored it on my site. Has lots of entry's for other old machines.

You add the entries you want to the source file then use 'tic' to recompile the terminfo database.

Bumping an old thread because I haven't seen the information anywhere else. There is a VIC-20 terminal program that supports downloads. It is called Como-Term IIID.

https://commodore.software/downloads/do ... omo-term-3

It supports the xmodem protocol to download (or upload) a buffer in memory that can then be saved to disk. I haven't pushed it to see how large a file it can handle. I have been able to use it to transfer files from vice to real hardware using a direct serial connection from my Mac.

I would love to hear if anyone else knows of programs that allow downloads on the VIC.

Sounds like a great candidate for the Vic20 Things we want to see / hear development competition ;-)
