The PRICE of "Retro" becoming cool.

Post by Judge Drokk »

In the last 10 years retro has become cool. This has created something of a "Ohh we dont have to wait 100 years anymore for something to be worth some money.. " situation....... and those with old "collectables" in the loft are taking advantage, as well as so called "proffesional" sellers.

What was once going for pennies or cents is now deemed as "something to retire on".

The" garage sale " is now the "Sotheby's Auction".

Ive found a few examples below.......

Commodore 1084s Monitor (Early 1990's) - - - £250:00

Andes Attack £25) (VIC) http://www.retrogames.co.uk/002581/Comm ... -Llamasoft

Psychadelia £40 (64) http://www.retrogames.co.uk/028626/Comm ... -Llamasoft

Yak's Progress (£150) (64) http://www.retrogames.co.uk/039821/Comm ... -Llamasoft

Viva VIC (£250:00) -- http://www.retrogames.co.uk/031782/Comm ... asoft-MINT

Can anyone say what these "should" actually be priced at? Are they "realistic prices"..... of course something is
only worth what someone else will pay for it.

Are these really the antiques of the future.......... NOW??!?!

while in persuit of his pleasure.

What would "you" pay for these items......... or see as a fair price for selling them?

I drove to the UK this weekend and picked up my Amiga A500 + A501 + external floppy and 1084 monitor. All boxed with cables and instruction. The A500 is abit yellowed, but like new inside. A501 had a leaky battery (had to desolder battery, treat damage). The external floppy appears to be unused. I tested, all working fine.

The 1084 is like new (no yellowing, on off switch and flap not broken). I was thinking about selling the 1084, but now I might just keep it after what you've mentioned now.

Just check on Ebay searching "completed listings" in Advanced search to find out the real value of items. If a shop decides to put them online for about 2-3 times the Ebay-price they just MIGHT find someone willing to pay, but will most likely keep their stock.

A 1084s is worth about 50-100 EUR I guess depending on condition.

This one was 'new' for 211 euros. I don't recall how much the new price was back in the late 80's/early 90's. I bought mine off a mate who went back packing to Australia for 50 gbp around 1991. His dad went ape, I guess it wasn't his to sell ???

I have owned this all since new from 1987. It has kickstart v1.2

http://www.amigaroms.com/
•v1.2, released 1986
Kickstart now automatically detects NTSC and PAL mode. The text "v1.2" was added to next to the disk on kickstart screen.
•v1.3, released 1988
It was now possible to boot from hard disk. Recoverable ramdrive.device (RAD:) was introduced.
