Thanks to a most simple trick there's a quarter more bandwidth, stability of frequency and less distortions caused by low frequencies.

And there're no border effects anymore as they tend to ruin the sound on leaky circuitry.

Wanna bite myself in the back for this, because that trick's already been used trying to fix the video thing – which still does not work.

TAPE TON works with the VIC-20. It's bad, yes, but not that bad. I recall it was good enough, in my testing, for me to play a 440Hz tone recorded on analogue cassette to help me calibrate the datasette motor speed.

I played around with audio recordings last night and didn't get anything usable out of it.

I'm not clear on whether or not you have an actual VIC-20, as in the beginning of this thread it seemed like you were asking people to try your program on real hardware (I assume because you don't have a real VIC-20).

Did you test TAP TONE on an actual VIC-20 and datasette? If so the only explanation I can give is perhaps you are using a PAL VIC? I"m using an NTSC one.

Nah. Did a small piece of code to check what's actually coming through from an audio recording and it wasn't much.
