New release: Address Book
New release: Address Book
I've been away for a while and had time to think about my VIC 20 projects. I've decided that my silly BASIC game programs are making many of you Denialers not take me seriously as a software engineer. . .
So, I'm no longer making games. I'm focusing my attention on productivity applications.
Tonight, I made my first release: Address Book. The program is written entirely in BASIC (with optional tape drive and Vic Modem support). It allows you to store contacts (phone numbers and email addresses) on tape and access them on demand. This is a convenient way to keep all of your friend and business associate information organized.

I've been experiencing some errors when accessing the database for the first time, so it's not fully debugged. Be patient, and let me know what you think.

I've always considered you to be one heck of a programmer!Jeff-20 wrote:...many of you Denialers not take me seriously as a software engineer. . .
Can you add the option of loading and saving to disk?...it's not fully debugged. Be patient, and let me know what you think.

It is not april 1. Jeff! You are known for your innovative basic games, stopping producing them would be like a denial of Denial... So of course you will program basic games in the future, Enough said!!!
Glad to se a utility program from you will take a look later today, looks interesting.

Thanks for the kind words, guys! I think serious productivity applications like this one will be the future of my VIC programs. Give it a try.
Sure! It should be pretty simple to implement; both TAPE and DISK have four letters. When I need to make a phone call, I think it makes more sense to access my contacts on tape because they're more portable. They can fit in my pocket. Disks just wouldn't be very practical in my humble opinion.RobertBe wrote:Can you add the option of loading and saving to disk?

Jeff i always thought your games were beautiful miniature pieces of art. I hope you will do games again.
For now, though, I'm also interesed in seeing your productivity software.

I guess it's true that coding BASIC games doesn't make you a Computer Scientist, but you should never think that your games aren't worthwhile. If I made a list of the 10 most important games on the VIC, TenTen would be on it.Jeff-20 wrote:Thanks for the kind words, guys! P.S. Linus Torvalds (founder of Linux) started out with a VIC-20 as a kid and even made a Pac-Man clone called Cool-Man .

Away for a while.. Been to the pub Jeff? Just joking, it's only that:
1. I already use an address book prg for the VIC, and it's in Italian : http://sleepingelephant.com/ipw-web/bul ... 616#p77616
2. I DO prefer and deeply respect the other Jeff, creator of unsurpassed games for the unexpanded micro!

Re: New release: Address Book
I for one welcome such applications and hope to see more. The longer we can keep the VIC as a machine for serious work, the better. I encourage you, Jeff, in your new direction.
That said, I don't think your former attention on games minimises your work in the least!

No one actually tried it??
Re: New release: Address Book
I tried it.
I especially liked the lottery game. You should have released this tomorrow, April Fool's Day.
Those who try the game will know what I mean

Kind regards, Peter.
