Hi guys, I bought a VIC-20 from an older gentleman to practice coding and learn something new.

I know nothing about it other than it was stored in the attic since the late 80's and doesn't turn on.

It came with the datacette add on and joystick.

The serial number is V003691 and from what I've read it of the old style keyboard?

Here are some pictures:

When I crack it open to check the bridge solder connections I'll post the internals!

I was proud of my 7829 but 3691 is definitely a very early unit.
Be normal.

!
Holy Cow!...

I have Serial # V003645 !!

They must have been made on the same shift!?
:)

It is marked Made in USA,
Has the original PET style keys with black/gold case badge and 2 prong power connector.

My #2 also made in USA
Serial # P1001042
It is definitely a Cost Reduced model as it has the round case notch in the cartridge slot area and has DIN power connector and cost reduced key style with mustard (not grey) function keys.
Curiously, it does not have a rainbow case badge but is still using the older style black/gold badge design.

#3) No longer have.
I sold it several years ago and now regret doing so.

V003691 seems to have the later 5 pin DIN power supply - perhaps the main board was swapped with a cost-reduced one. Standing by for pics of the inside!

It appears to be the correct early adapter based on the overall appearance.

I think what you see is in fact the DIN connector of the RF TV-out box just underneath.

It's been a while, but as promised here are the pictures I took while checking it out. I found the issue to be a blown fuse within the wall plug adapter, so I soldered a new one in it's place. The unit and accessories work great!

Nice thread, just dusted off my VIC 20 purchased in 1981. Noticed I had a low serial number and found this forum. Mine is...

MADE in USA Serial 8357

Looks the same as the one (Killahurtz) posted earlier but not as many blue stickers on the chips. Still works, just found an old cassette and loaded a program I wrote in May 1982 that reprograms the letter T to a custom character of my initials. Those were the days :)

Hello from a newbie !

About 10 years ago i found this gem outside in the rain in , you gotta believe me , a pile of old metal on a local scrapyard while unloading some other scrapmetal. Thought i'd take it home and try to resurrect someday :D

I finally found some time to clean it up a bit and got it going again , after some TLC all is working like it should. Unfortunately it's not the prettiest one because it had seen some rough times over the years and on that junkpile , but the story kinda makes up for that i think.

On top of that recently i found out it is a really old one , one of the first German Rainbow VICs with serial WGC 0465 and the petkeys.

Awesome
