It originally started out as a normal listing but the seller obviously decided that the item may go too cheap. I should have put a bid in on it whilst it was an open auction.

A Diagnostic cartridge without diagnostic plugs is for nothing.

You could run this software in a FE3 also.

A good diagnostic hardware would have connections on userport, IEC, joystick, keyboard connector.

And it would need some display or some LED to show problems even the display is death.

It just occurred to me that the Diagnostic harness for the C64 may have the correct pin outs that everyone has been scratching their head over for the VIC 20 version - especially the serial port component.

I bought my C64 Diagnostics cartridge and harness on eBay. The individual that makes them also has a website where he offers the DIAG-BLACK II cartridge/harness kit online.

Might be worth someone who has been playing with the VIC Diag cartridge (and already has most of their harness built) making contact with him and seeing if he is prepared to build/sell the serial port component separately... I paid about AUD 60.00 for my full setup, surely the serial port component would be a lot less... besides if it works everyone benefits!

Yep. The VIC-20 and 64 used the same harness. The only difference was the diagnostic cartridge itself.
In the end it will be as if nothing ever happened.

The diagnostic loopbacks I have for the C64 do not work with the diag cart I have for the VIC-20.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread but I found one of these in one of my boxes.

Like much of my stuff, this came from Commodore UK's plant in Corby in the summer of 86.

Does anyone have the correct set of dongles for this who could confirm the connections? I have the C64 diag dongles but from the pics, these are definitely different.

On Wednesday master C= technician Ray Carlsen tried out the VIC-20 Diagnostic cart with its specific harness. See pictures and read a short summary at

Interested. When you get the board (or I can make one if you have the wiring).
