Original VIC-20 Cassettes

Post by wiskow »

Recently, a few original VIC-20 cassettes were donated to me, in the understanding that the files contained within would be added to the VIC-20 file section on my BBS. Since I'm still a "newbie" with the VIC's, I was wondering if these titles are at all "rare". If so, I'd be willing to post a copy of them on my BBS's website for all to enjoy. :-)

The cassettes are:
VT1001: Car Chase
VT1002: VIC 21 Casino-Style Blackjack
VT1003: Biorythm Compatibility
VT1004: Space Math
VT1006: Slither & Super Slither

hmmm... I seem to be missing a VT1005.

These are all pretty common. You can probably find them on Zimmers site or on some of the other VIC download sites out there.

Yeah, I did some searching around, and that's pretty much what I discovered. Still, it's nice to have the original cassettes, complete with plastic case and documentation. Slither, as it turns out, was written by Jim Butterfield. And it's a pretty fun game! :-)

I think these cassettes are part of a "six-pack" that were sold with, or given away with new VIC-20s as part of a promotion.

I have one of those 6 packs. The tape wiskow is missing (VT1005) is Blue Meanies from Outer Space.

Okay, so instead of having anything rare, I have some of the most common VIC-20 cassettes... hehehehe

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know WHY the Blackjack game is called "VIC 21" Blackjack?

Maybe so, but they're fun to play anyhow.

I really enjoy playing VIC-21 Blackjack, actually. A very fun version. Being in BASIC, it's easy to modify the programs too. I changed some of the colors around in VIC-21 for instance.

Blue Meanies is a great example of line crunching. How did the programmer crunch full line RETURNs inside PRINT statements?

Hmm...

Code: Select all

1 PRINT"AMB"
POKE 4104,13
RUN

Code: Select all

1 PRINT"AMB" (3 CRSR LEFT)(RVS ON)(SHIFT-M)(RETURN)
The control characters should be typed in direct mode, not inside a quote. A somewhat simpler approach than Mike's.

Of course this one is the most practical:

Code: Select all

1 PRINT"A";CHR$(13);"B": REM CHR$(141) works as well

Or,

Code: Select all

0 R$=CHR$(13)
1 PRINT"A"R$"B" (and elsewhere in program)
