how precisely I've gotten on with my copy of Ultima: Mount Drash :P

Well finally... yes finally got it in my hands last week, and was able to test it last night. Sure, for once, there was actually some nervousness in whether it would load, but nothing to worry about really. Worked first time. Plays quite simply, but a bit of skill and planning needed.

And I've made a working TAP of it just in case... but please don't ask for a copy as I will not be distributing it under any circumstances.

Bad news.. I know where to download a version converted to disk. Maybe this one of the better of the bad scenarios, as it will take some skill to reverse-engineer a one-filed or disk version back to tape for forging, and that EMD is not known to have existed on floppy disk anyway.

Oh I realise that, but as you said, putting it back to tape = very tricky. Any form of the game that people can play = good as long as it can't be transfered back to tape for pirate copies :P

Hm.. if it wasn't for the fact that Mount Drash is written in Basic and about 1.5-2K too large to fit into 8K memory block (after loading/depacking), Sierra On-Line could've released it on cartridge instead of tape. I wonder how that would have changed the rarity?

Look on Bo Zimmerman's Funet mirror (link posted elsewhere, not repeated for fewer Google/Tulip/Sierra/ESA hits) in the directory for 8K Basic games. The one-filed version utilizes Pucrunch which clearly is not an option if making an 8K cartridge version for VIC without 8K memory expansion.
