Re: New Release: Demons of Dex
btw. is it just me or is the c64 scene more hostile? Luckily I'm part of the friendlier vic-20 scene. Maybe it's because the c64 scene is still so young

Re: New Release: Demons of Dex
I have no idea what you are talking about, groepaz. The statement is necessary in the unlikely but still possible case I someday release a version of Demons of Dex commercially. In that case I don't want anyone to have any claims towards me. Without this statement there is a risk that it may seem li...

Re: New Release: Demons of Dex
I had a discussion about this with another co-founder of Almost Human. I'm now making this official statement for the record as it may be possible this may some day turn into commercial product (however unlikely): I, Petri Häkkinen, retain all copyright and intellectual property of Demons of Dex gam...

Re: New Release: Demons of Dex
I would be happy if they added "A game by Petri Häkkinen" in the titlescreen just below the title name (before their credits), to the csdb credits section and their marketing messages. Can we get that? Then I could move on without bad feelings.

Re: New Release: Demons of Dex
They certainly didn't just "replaced the screen routines and slapped their credits on the front" as you claim over at CSDb. Far more effort was put into this port than a simple code swap and you know it Petri. I have to assume you are one of the admins at csdb. That's exactly what they di...

Re: New Release: Demons of Dex
Yes, I know they mention me in the credits but they give way more emphasis on their part which really downplays my contribution and make me feel very sad. This is my creation, the gameplay of C64 version is exactly the same (they used exactly the same code). As you don't seem to understand why I fee...

Re: New Release: Demons of Dex
This is my last post on the subject. Just for the record I never gave you permission to make the port. But that is beside the point. I feel all the communication you are having about the game on the net downplays my contribution. In fact I would not be surprised if the majority of players think the ...

Re: New Release: Demons of Dex
The C64 version was made behind my back without my permission. They basically grabbed the "All rights reserved" tagged source code from github and ported the screen routines to C64 and now they are calling it their game and "all the hard work by Hokuto Force". Sheesh.

Re: USB charger as a power supply replacement
In the end I made my own power supply from a 9V transformer and a 5V switching power supply module (pics attached). The transformer and switching psu are earth grounded and fused and the thing is built into plastic enclosure so it should be fairly safe. One issue still remains. There's a slight pixe...

Re: USB charger as a power supply replacement
Has anybody measured how much current the vic actually draws? The original vic power supply I have is rated 5V / 1.5A (it's the beige one).
My local electronics store sells 5V / 1.5A Mascot power supplies. I've heard that Mascot is a good and reliable brand. I think I'm going to buy one tomorrow.

Re: USB charger as a power supply replacement
I measured the voltage with a dummy load (a 6.8 ohm 5W resistor) and voltage drops to 4.55V with 0.6A current. The charger is rated 5.1V, 2.1A, which is kinda misleading (yeah, the charger can deliver 5.1V or 2.1A but not both at the same time!). I think I need to find an alternative power source...

Re: USB charger as a power supply replacement
That might be a problem... I will measure the output of the charger with various dummy loads. But I need to buy an USB cable first. I never thought I'd see the day when I ran out of USB cables to butcher!

Re: USB charger as a power supply replacement
Thanks for the replies, guys! I have a few genuine Apple chargers (from iPad and iPhones) and I've heard they are very low ripple (I don't have an oscilloscope so I can't verify it myself though). One more question: does anyone know how picky the VIC is regarding the voltage? The voltage varies arou...

USB charger as a power supply replacement
Hello! It's time to replace the power supply of my VIC-20! It's a ticking time bomb after all... My VIC is an european model with the DIN power connector. Anybody tried to replace the power supply with a USB charger? I'm thinking of iPad USB charger which can deliver 2.1A at 5.1V. Looking at the sch...
