Re: 6561 Die Shot Reversing Explorations
Lance, are you sure about the speed of CR-D? The new sound generator has been implemented in VICE 3.3 and the resulting noise is one octave higher than a real VIC-20. This might suggest that CR-D and CR-C share the same clock divider. Or perhaps CR-D is halved down somewhere when mixed with the LFS...

Re: 6561 Die Shot Reversing Explorations
Wow! Thanks for these images of the 6560-101 and 6561-101. As you can imagine, I've been waiting eagerly for these since I first heard the work was being done. They will no doubt keep the community happy for many years. I'm keen to identify all the differences between the three versions now. I won't...

Re: Interrupt behaviour of the 6502 in emulation
Thanks for this information Mike. I'll need to spend some time studying it. Another thing I haven't implemented yet are the undocumented 6502 instructions. I think I figured there wasn't much use of these on the VIC 20, but I've come across a few things that are using them recently, so I'm going to ...

Re: Interrupt behaviour of the 6502 in emulation
Your emulator for sure presets the RAM with all bytes zero. Yes, that's correct. that's why you see the yellow stripe while the colour tables are written. Hmmm, I see. Make's sense. This RAM init pattern is more typical though for DRAM machines. This reminds me that when I wrote my Oric emulator, I...

Re: References to 6560 VIC chip prior to its use in the VIC 20
How are you reading these books? All I get are screenshots of the title page and no way to download them. **EDIT** Never mind. I see you couldn't read it all either. Yeah, I couldn't see the image, or read the whole text in one go... I did find another reference from June 1980. This is around the t...

Re: Interrupt behaviour of the 6502 in emulation
The forum software ate a longer reply, so here's the short version: That has certainly happened to me before... multiple times. That's what happens when we write too much, and I'm the worst offender. :D Any difference during the 'greyscale conversion' (which really is the setup of the colour tables...

Re: Scott Adams, Infocom and the VIC
Anyway I did foolishly asked him to remake one or some of his classics, namely Pirate Adventure, Voodoo Castle and The Count. I had the PC in mind and he agreed. Scott Adams is great. I was in email contact with him about 20 years ago. At that time I asked if I could create a remake of Mission Impo...

Re: Interrupt behaviour of the 6502 in emulation
Correct. If you use at least a fairly recent version of VICE, that is. I've tried 3.1 and 3.3. They both appear the same. This is what it looks like on VICE when it is partway down "converting" the image to grayscale: avril_yellow_band.png What my emulator doesn't have is the yellow band ...

Interrupt behaviour of the 6502 in emulation
Did you try out my raster demo with your emulator in the meantime? I haven't implemented support for disk images yet, or for the disk drive, so at the moment I can only run standalone program files or cartridge images. The disk drive is probably the next thing on my list to take a look at. Well I n...

Re: Supporting Purple Planet Yo demo
I have got it working in VICE now. Previously I was loading it with only 24K RAM. I didn't see the comment with the Youtube video stating that it required the full 32K RAM, and on the Denial releases topic. Edit: Actually it seems to require the full 35K RAM. I tried it on my emulator with on...

Supporting Purple Planet Yo demo
Not really certain what the best section to post this under is. It kind of spans a few different areas. I was watching the recent Purple Planet Yo demo on Youtube and thinking that looks and sounds really cool. But when I tried it on VICE, it didn't work the same. I then tried it on my in progress e...

References to 6560 VIC chip prior to its use in the VIC 20
Over the past couple of days, I've been trying to find as many references as I can to the 6560 chip that are dated prior to the release of the VIC 20. I couldn't find many, but the earliest reference was from towards the end of 1978, which I thought might be of interest. The details are as follows: ...
