Re: SuperCPU for the Vic-20

Great work! I had similar timing issues on my project, and have been wathcing your progress with great interest. It's ironic how "fussy" VIC-20 timing can be. Normally I use exclusevely non-blocking, and have never had any problems, even in my bleeding edge HDMI projects running the Sparta...

VICE Build and Mods

Has anyone here ever built a windows binary from the VICE sources? I ask becasue I am considering a mod, and there is no point digging it if it has been done before. What I want is to capture the 10 bit address and data seen as IO2, and stream it realtime to a serial port at 2mbs. Data would simply ...

Re: Vic 20 cartridge app. start problem.

Having recently required this myself, I found this thread a few times in my searching, so I shall post my solution. I think the code above actually "works", but simply recycles as the reset sequence keeps on looping back to the cartridge code. What I did was pick through the Kernal ROM to ...

Re: VICE - 32K Cartridge Possible?

VICE is certainly great when you are away from your VIC, and just want to bang out some ideas. There are some limitations for us NTSC users though, mainly Interlace Mode. I did find this one though, and it allowed some testing of Raster / Interlace code... http://emutopia.com/index.php/emulators/ite...

Re: VICE - 32K Cartridge Possible?

I managed to get something to work by using my standard auto-boot BLK5 image, and then using "Add to Generic Cartridge" in VICE to include my mostly fixed code in BLK1,2,3. I am at the point now where I really need to continue on my real VIC. Since I will be getting into some line-synce ex...

Re: VICE - 32K Cartridge Possible?

Thanks Mike. Many good ideas and options as always! I am working on a new type of "Video Mode", so the quickest way to go from compile to execute is needed. Multiple images seems like a good choice, as I can just change one block, then reset VICE. I am all charged up after spending 1 day r...

VICE - 32K Cartridge Possible?

Greets fellow VIC freaks! I am working on a project that requires a bit of testing in VICE (often away from my real VIC these days). What I have in real hardware is a VIC 32 Expansion RAM with the Cartridge Auto-start Signature in Block 5. I have Blocks 1,2,3, and 5 populated for a total of 32K. Thi...

Re: VIC-2000 Expander. Modern Power Using Retro Parts!

Sure was! I must admit though, I am more than ready to see the snow melt! Seeing it is now April and there are still 3 foot drifts in certain places of my yard. Have not had much VIC hacking time lately either, but still intend to keep the project going. Brad Now thats some serious exercise, but I b...

Re: VIC-2000 Expander. Modern Power Using Retro Parts!

Nothing to report this weekend. I did take my notepad out into the back 40 and do some schematic design around a campfire. Nothing like sitting in a chair made of pine branches, working out Sprite Generator timings! Just to show that I don't always hate winter... http://atomiczombie.com/temp/SnowTre...

Re: VIC-2000 Expander. Modern Power Using Retro Parts!

Project non-update... I have all day free today. Unfortunately, this is the view from my man-cave window... http://atomiczombie.com/temp/snow2018.jpg Under that hill of snow is the car I need to drive to work in the morning! So I shall be spending the day behind the snow blower again. I do like livi...

Re: SuperCPU for the Vic-20

Cool to have that kind of equipment at your disposal! Is this a home super-setup, or a commercial gig? Would be neat to see a photo of your setup as well. Following your project keeps me driven to continue on mine as well. Looking forward to seeing the first version powered up and running. Cheers, B...

Re: VIC-2000 Expander. Modern Power Using Retro Parts!

The snow has buried my lab windows again, so this weekend has been spent outdoors with the snowblower for the most part! I did manage to cram a good 2 hour session in though, and made what seems to be great progress! The first thing I did was hook up both Video Memory Buffers. Being short on time, I...

Re: HASL for cartridges? (split/OT from: Cheese & Onion)

Ok thanks. there is certainly no issue with space constraints on that design. Nice work. One question though, How do you stop the entire unit from pulling out when removing a cart? It would seem that it may be a 50-50 chance of either end coming out (cart or VIC). Some type of mechanical connection ...

Re: HASL for cartridges? (split/OT from: Cheese & Onion)

I would like to have one for my V2K project.
No point making my own if you have these available.
Can you post a photo?
I have some space constraints.

Thanks,
Brad
