If you have a multimeter, check for short between pins 3 & 6 of CN2 drive.

If there is no short, problem may be with VIA1 (6522) in Vic-20 or with cassette motor control circuit in Vic-20.

With File Bowser on MegaCart, there are none of these DOS commands to remember. It is pretty slick with Jim's uIEC hardware.

About SJLOAD, maybe Brian forgot to load the SJLOAD08 PAL or NTSC on NVRAM but as you discovered you may download the installer from the mega-cart.com site. This is a special version that resides on Mega-Cart's NVRAM and it's required for fast access on sd2iec based drives for EasyLoad and FileBrow...

Solder wick will also produce good results to remove chips from PCBs without damaging them.
