2 Sic Vics???

SICK VIC 1 I just picked up a 1983 9v VIC20. Was working straight out of the box. Most ICs are socketed. It started developing a strange problem (there was no pic at all after maybe 10 or 15 seconds pic came - the tv flipped s-video and comp like it had a signal but wasn't sure). Which has now mani...

Re: MegaCart.. Getting the ball rolling.

If you want faster then buy from Ray. I guess I ordered sav64 and Ray's PSU on the same day. Ray's device was there after 6 days from USA. As soon as I'd PayPal'd him the cash he was finnishing off my PSU based on my requirements. I took a 2 cable C64-C128 model (not at the same time). We also discu...

Re: MegaCart.. Getting the ball rolling.

I had this one on my watch list. Well done. You need a safer PSU really. Either a sav64 from skydivingirl or a premium PSU from Ray Carlson to protect your treasure

Re: LCD television

There is a new commodore 1084 with collection only in Berlin if that is helpful. Falling that checkout the 15 or 20 inch Phillips edtv 4121 range with manual tuner, hdmi, scart, vga, s-video, rgb and composite. 20 inch is "big" for the vic. You can get on ebay from about 30 euros. Alternat...

Re: 2nd VIC 20

I found this guide whilst looking for c42 replacements. I learned something new, the stripe denotes negative. I always went by leg length.

Re: 2nd VIC 20

I have 4 vics all with soldered vic-i chips (the one I got yesterday, I didn't look just yet). I am not afraid of my soldering iron, but I prefer "unmodded" really.

Re: VIC 20 serial numbering

I thought of making a really detailed inventory of my own. Including all ic numbers and date codes too. All my vics have c64 style keycaps too but the board under the key caps varies alot.

Also board revision and some photos too. I don't even know what a ferrite bead is, or what it's legs look like. The capacitor and resistor values would also be good to know too.

I forgot to mention. I finally got it open with brute force. Nothing broken. I also discovered no switches too. I will try the vic1110 when I am home.

Boray wrote: I didn't mean bad like that, I just meant some Vic-20s (often on the CR model) has a grainy display on some colors. That is more or less normal.
so it's not correctable? Black is perfect blue is ok and the rest of colours are like checkerboard.

Re: 2nd VIC 20

@mrr19121970 1. Reseat the chips in their sockets - USE STATIC HANDLING PRECAUTIONS! 2. Change the capacitor for the 555 reset timer C42; this is a 10uF capacitor. all chips are soldered to the board. I observed when the VIC chip was warm the issue vanished. Cold chip displayed the garbage Shall I ...
