Huh, I tought we had CLEARLY decided we DON'T want RAM in the multicart bacause many games detect it and refuse to work? I have a multislot expander here and I know for a fact that many games will crash when they see any RAM in the BLK areas they do not use for themselves. So far only 1 or 2 people ...

Re: How''s your VIC display?

I've set up my VIC with a Commodore 1084S monitor, which gives about as good a picture as I've seen for the VIC.. One thing I had forgotten was how extremely poor some of the colours display on the real VIC.. I'm wondering if this is specific to PAL users, or even PAL Australian users? (I don't kno...

Things are beyond out of control on eBay. I had the pleasure of being outbid last night on eslapion's 128D by none other than worldlam again. What made eslapion's 128D a "very rare model"? Was the first few thousand 128Ds made different than the ones that followed? Or were there really on...

Btw Ral-Clan, any chance of slinging these dumps of Rally-X/Car Race along to me (email in the profile) so I can look at them? :) Hey I posted that on Zimmer's months ago! See: http://www.zimmers.net/anonftp/pub/cbm/vic20/roms/8k/Rally-X-NTSC.prg Unfortunately, the other Rally-X in the same directo...

Two request: Since everyone of us has at least an 8K expansion, do you think it is possible to make a version for 8k expanded VIC ? Also, if you don't like the cursor keys, which I learned by reflex when I was a kid, could you make a joystick version ? Perhaps with 8k of expansion, you wont have to ...

It's output is monchrome (B&W) and 80 column mode on composite video is not great!. I have an 80 column column cart for the 64 and what I can say is you can also plug the monochrome output to the Y channel of a component (Y-Pb-Pr) TV to get a stunning clear image. The reason you get a blurry pi...

You should make this information visible in your profile to avoid confusion.

BTW, did you ever consider doing like I did and modding a PC power supply? I made myself a power supply which can feed power to one C64 or VIC-20 CR and 2 1541-II/1581. Works great!

Unfortunately, yes. I wanted to create another design which would implement Saundby's suggested alternative to having a cascade of LS273/373 but I didn't have enough time.

My layout includes some ideas that others have shared in this thread but were poo-pooed. I tried bread boarding a few of the ideas from the Schema/Eslapion design, but I kept getting drawn back to logic of dedicated eprom for /BLK5 and flip flop to reset data latches. After he realized his "ti...

I must point out here that Nicolas Welte's expansion was mostly intended for the PET. In the case of the VIC, it would be extremely easy to have memory expansions or game carts appear at the same memory area as the internal expansion and cause a catastrophy. To top it off, there is no provision on N...

Which kind of turbodisk, for which drives ? 1541/1571 or for 1581 too? If you use 2kb at I/O2 for turbodisk you may load 16k programs? I remember in a thread that someone says that using a sort of "logical switch" it possible to use a 2kb program at I/O5 and to load cartridge images too, ...

How many free I/O addresses are available in I/O 2 & 3? Unlike Intel processors, Terbium processors (65XX) and motorola processors use a flat memory model where any address can either be RAM or ROM or IO or whatever. That being said, IO2 and IO3 each represent an address range of 1024 bytes for...

You have a great circuit idea presuming a single 16mb eprom. However, requirement analysis prior to design should consider marginal utility of requests from the "customer". Occasionally this requires to alter design based on simple economics and felexibility of the hardware. Sometimes for...

To 6502dude:

Let me ask you in a different manner... What would you do if you HAD to create the multicart with a single eprom?

The way my design works right now, both eproms are connected to the address bus in a way that makes them both appear as a single 16 mbit eprom with 256 cells of 8k in it.

I took some liberties with this design objective based on following logic (a) virtually all ROM images are auto start (b) auto start is based on when /BLK5 goes low to select 40960 range (c) 16K carts need /BLK5 in one Eprom and 2nd part in the other Eprom (d) we have more than 128 /BLK5 images (e)...
