Some of the early dot matrix printers had a test mode in which all characters would print out. If you have manual for MPS-801, it may identify such a test mode that may help isolate fault of printer. (I have never owned a MPS-801, so I'm just guessing that it may have a test print mode). If unit pa...

Re: Scary looking printer capacitors

Are these capacitors leaking or is this just some sort of hot glue used to anchor them to the circuit board (prevent rocking)? The residue does have a little bit of a gummy texture. Glue indeed to fix them on the spot. If it indeed were bad capacitors, the printer would behave different. IMHO it wo...

Scary looking printer capacitors

You might know I'm having strange problems with my old MPS-801 printer. http://sleepingelephant.com/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1114 I opened it up in order to identify what kind of memory chips it had and found that the capacitors looked like this: http://www3.sympatico.ca/clarke-santin/vic...

Well, it's definitely something wrong with the MPS-801. I coaxed my VIC-1525 printer into a semi-working state (print head motor is weak and a bit of lubricant on the rails helped it) and it works just fine and behaves normally. So it's not the VIC-20 that is the problem. I tested the MPS-801 again,...

Printer problem. Please help.

Hi, well I got my old MPS-801 Commodore printer going. But now there is a new problem with LISTing programs to the printer: I type: OPEN 3,4 CMD3 and the printer responds with READY. Then I type: LIST Mostly I then get a carriage return and nothing else. Sometimes I'll get the first line of the prog...

Hey, so this weekend I pulled out my old MPS-801 printer. I have two totally dry ribbon cartridges for it... In the first one I tried the WD-40 spray lubricant and it WORKED. The cartridge went from very used to quite useable. The second cartridge had a torn ribbon. I opened it up and took out the t...

Unfortunately that link appears to be broken right now (Sunday morning EST).

Slick trick with the cart case, btw. And yes, I see why you need a low-profile motherboard. You've got about fourteen more inches in width for your space than I've got, which is why I don't have my green screen going again yet. But yes, that C= monitor stand is =low=. Perhaps you could give yoursel...

I need to build a buffer board myself, and I've got a bit more height than you with my current monitor stand, but I'm going to build for 4" since that's the clearance under the wider monitor stand I'll be using when I go back to two monitors. Once I've got that built and checked out, you may w...

When it comes to dumping, something like this should do the trick: 10 OPEN1,8,15:OPEN2,8,2,"DATA20DUMP,P,W" 15 PRINT#2,CHR$(0);CHR$(160);:REM Add load address 20 FOR I=40960 TO 49151:PRINT #2,CHR$(PEEK(I));:NEXT 25 CLOSE2:CLOSE1 Carlsson, Hi, I tried using this program last night to dump ...

But how about this stuff about buffering/powering the carts? Good point, Boray, especially since he's looking at a long cable and we've gotten up to more slots. This buffer chip stuff is honestly beyond me right now. I think for the moment I'm going to just built the simple two or three slot expand...

Re: CGA Screen modes

No fixed plans yet as I've not tried any of this but ... I'm not sure the CGA card will do 80 columns, it only has 64K or RAM but I think it has character modes as well as graphics so who knows (yet). Lee. CGA has two text modes, 40 column and 80 column, and two graphics modes, 320x200 and 640x200....

I was being silly with the comments. If anyone wants to change one's avatar comment (or suggest one for a fellow memeber), please let me know. I'll change it. Jeff-20, I'm also dying to know where your avatar photo came from. That woman is haunting my dreams now  I don't mind my comment....

This is definitely a MIDI synchronization device. It sends out a master MIDI clock signal, and probably SMPTE and you can sync other devices to it. It's not really a sequencer....

I have a scan of a brochure of it somewhere....or a photo of it being used. There used to be a web-site about it.
