Re: Cartridge identity?

Don't leave feedback until you receive the item and are satisfied. Also if the deal falls through use ebay to file a not received complaint not paypal. Ebay automatically favors the buyer. Paypal is second fallback, and the CC company is third.

Re: NOS: Factory Replacement VIC-20 Motherboards - $12

I've seen this before, and pictures...can't recall where though. Some of the boxes that contained the boards were extremely damaged, maybe even water damaged. Also the only chip really worth anything is the VIC. For $12 each you could eventually get your money back, but it's not a big money-maker.

Re: Simplest amplifier circuit

I always just use a LM386, usually SOP8 but DIP sometimes too. it's a very simple circuit and compact.

Re: penultimate WTF !??

If EPROMs are X-Rayed during shipment it can cause issues with them. But that is a long shot.

Re: Project proposal: Type 'N Talk rebooted

That's a cool idea. Another possibility could be a Atmega328 by itself. Check this google search first couple results : http://www.google.com/search?ei=pSIKW92 ... ino+speech

I have the SP0256-AL2 chip already so either way I like it.

You could mount a blank D64 and try saving to that? I usually use D64s or D81s for most things myself.

Re: Help Required for VIC-20 Colour-Block Screen

I never quarrel online, just a friendly debate :D The 5 year figure is an industry standard assumption. There are thermal studies for 80's era low dissipation devices if you or anyone is interested that can be provided. The problem really isn't electromigration, it's the expansion and contraction di...

Re: Help Required for VIC-20 Colour-Block Screen

On the high dissipation heat sinks they use a copper plug to make contact with the chip and aluminum for the majority. With the VIC it wouldn't matter much because of the low power. I personally use aluminum.

Re: Help Required for VIC-20 Colour-Block Screen

Thank you all for making this into a 'heat-sinks versus no heat-sinks' thread... It's a no-brainier, heat sinks help in a measurable amount. One side has actual scientific studies as well as first hand testing and in my case decades of experience. The other has a theory and are referring to spec sh...

Re: Help Required for VIC-20 Colour-Block Screen

All the studies are saying it is best to keep the chips within the most narrow temperature range as possible to limit the physical stress on the chip die. Some studies show that thermal cycling is the cause of up to 50% of chip failures over the long term. We are talking about 35+ year old chips her...

Re: Help Required for VIC-20 Colour-Block Screen

I already wrote some time ago, that I consider heatsinks with the chips in the VIC-20 as rather useless. The thermal management is already taken care about by conducting excess heat away over the chip pins onto the ground planes. Witness the problems to desolder especially the VIC chip. What kills ...

Re: Plus/4 joystick adapter

I got the schematic for this from http://www.commodore.ca/manuals/funet/cbm/documents/projects/interfaces/plus4joy/plus4joy.html The only change I did was changing the resistors to 220 ohm. It works perfectly, I ended up making two. I'm attaching the entire project including 3D files and an eagle PC...
