Is the winner THE Peter Olafson aka MagerValp?
MagerValp is Per Olofsson (notice the difference), and something tells me he would use his own handle on eBay (or maybe not, if the idea behind eBay usage is that noone from the outside should be able to tell who is who).

The Café VIC project has a Yahoo group, and among our files is a cart list sheet where the members can check which cartridges they own. Apart from that project, there is another VIC preservation project also on Yahoo groups. Maybe someone (me?) should try to unite forces between those two and this f...

Seriously? I remember when Mr. Edward Franks (whose picture is featured in the auction -- is he the seller?) was offering $250 for a copy, and that was supposedly a lot of money. The seller mentions one more known complete set and a couple of loose tapes. I wonder if even for a collector who is econ...

My keys don't stick, they just need to be depressed hard to respond. My old (broken) C64 was even worse, so I was glad to get myself another one a couple of years ago which has a working keyboard. I guess anything from an original IBM PC to some Unix workstations or even mini computers could be hand...

Because I want to save my VIC for the glorious moments. As late as yesterday I realized some of keys does not respond as well as I wish they did, and the more typing I would do, the less they would respond over time. (it's almost like asking a car enthusiast why he doesn't take his 1957 Ford Fairlan...

Gah. I really need to get myself to the soldering pen soon. Currently when I compose VIC-20 music, I work in these steps: 1. Raw compose with OctaMED on the Amiga 1200 2. Force a "print to file" onto a PC compatible disk 3. Edit and clean up the print out to assembable macros on the PC 4. ...

Given we're still talking VIC-20 here (now, why wouldn't we?), that is more or less dirt easy: "Remove" horizontal borders: POKE 36864,6 : POKE 36866,28+PEEK(36866)AND128 "Remove" vertical borders: POKE 36865,14 : POKE 36867,70 For NTSC, adjust the values (6,28,14 and 70) slightl...

Some day I might return to looking into why the posted routine is not enough.. I had a similar one where I saved the current row ($D6) and restored it rather than setting it at a fixed row, and then scrolling happened but there was no limitation on window size and things became screwed up after a wh...

There is a WAV-to-TAP converting program. The TAP can be loaded into an emulator and possibly extracting the program itself. Maybe you can go into BIOS on your PC and check the parallel port settings - it probably works best if it is "standard" or "SPP". I don't know if the ECP a...

The next compo will probably be held in June-September 2004 or something. The rules will most likely stay the same as last year. In short: Two categories: 1K (1024 bytes) or 4K (4096 bytes) "Loader stubs" etc are included in the file size. In the case of VIC, we store the file as a PRG whi...

I'm not sure from where you got the impression that Aleksi is from the Netherlands (he is most surely a Finn, although his name does not sound particulary Finnish). Oh well, you can add my link too if you like: http://www.mds.mdh.se/~dal95acn/vic20.html The page has been there more or less the same ...

Sorry, no; the Basic and Kernal are ROMs. I explained the VIC-20 memory model in detail in another phpBB forum last week, but I can paste it here as well since it is quite on-topic: $0000-03FF: 1K of "low" RAM, mainly system memory but in theory possible to use for your own needs if you by...

Regarding Star Commander and the X*1541 cables, see the message I wrote in the other section (collecting) or check http://sta.c64.org for latest informations about both. However, it is true that SC works best in DOS environments, but with the right cable it should work on a brand new computer as lon...

I don't think there is an easy way to solve scrolling, since the kernel is fixed at 22 characters x 23 rows, no matter how you modify the VIC-I screen resolution. You would have to hack your own kernel which looks into RAM or VIC-I registers, but since the routine for scrolling probably is quite opt...

I try to write at least one or two VIC-20 games for the annual MiniGame Compo , although Aleksi Eeben et. al obviously are much better at making stunning games. Otherwise, I'm more of a musician in a few of the demo releases, namely Veni Vidi VIC!, Vici Iterum MM, VIMMII, Beggars aren't Choosers etc.
