Re: Raspberry Pi 400 - Computer in a keyboard!

I removed the former image posted and will point to the GDrive folder instead. There's my heavily moderated and custom RA playlists using 256gb and another RetroMachine 512gb images for Raspberry Pi 4/400. Linux 6.1 kernel + firmware using latest Mesa Vulkan driver RetroArch built as of 2/14 with up...

Re: What would be a good game for...

When I think of VIC 20, I see in order Jupiter Lander, Omega Race, and Radar Rat Race. Jupiter Lander is not (of course) Lunar Lander, but its cover art was also featured on its premier edition of Power Play which left an indelible image in my mind about that golden era of the Wonder Computer of the...

Re: Space Invaders / Connect-4

Just took your fine handiwork for a spin (using VICE) -- runs like a dream. It shows that you took great care with the sounds and explosions without detracting any from the fast smooth action.

Love an early Christmas present, thanks!

Re: Snake Games are the Best Games

Love the title (because I love snake games) and its look. Not entirely sold on a "wraparound universe" in this snake garden. :P
Maybe border up some of that with garden stones, and put in a snake "hole" that allows for selective traversing between borders?

Re: Software sprites?

It amazes me still this thread is followed. Good luck with your assembler pursuits -- it can be a kind of grind, but in the end, it's fun. :P @beamrider, back in that day, I had started a new sprite stack using a new approach that would offer some interesting new features. The motivation behind that...

Re: Raspberry Pi 400 - Computer in a keyboard!

FWIIW, I replaced the 128 with a 256gb image with the latest RetroArch using my moderated content playlists, not just rom "dumps". The bloat is mostly from adding in a lot more media, including an extensive library of PDF manuals, previews, and video. So, the menu HELP and searchable game ...

It was such a thrill to find that one back in the day!
C= Shift and CTRL on the title screen of Omega Race
... just "or" at the end of Omega Fury title screen. I didn't want to make it that complicated! :P

LOL- my VIC 20 work area in 1982 started on a bedside end table that barely fit the keyboard & 10" B&W RCA sportable TV with the Datasette sitting on its "shelf" below.

Re: A New Draft

Super Expander, Programmer's Aid, et al, but the Machine Language Monitor quick reference is missing entirely -- it will make all those useful mnemonics and memory internals fully explained put to native use on a VIC 20. I'm certain someone clever can write a really short "game" or "t...

Re: A New Draft

Someone sees this hardcopy laying about and will likely ask, "What's a VIC 20?" :P Suggest moving the technical screen map off the cover and replace it with an image, such as: https://imageio.forbes.com/specials-images/imageserve/5efb9c6b3855ae0007ddff3e/Commodore-VIC-20/960x0.jpg And I se...

Re: A New Draft

Can this PDF format support bookmarks? PDF exports often have as an option off any header style formatting.
For example, its cover does not offer me to click on any TOC entry to jump to that page.

If it's the show button, it does not work. It redirects me back to the forum.
Is there a Venmo option?

Re: NMI Restart

OK, a "custom" restart is wanted here. FWIIW, since the VIC did not come standard with a hardware reset, I was never a fan of games not allowing for a soft reset that would return the machine back to normal control. And the built-in Run/Stop RESTORE was no guarantee after the better games ...
