Re: Memory Expanssion questions
And just count yourself lucky it's a VIC 20 not a ZX Spectrum. They are prone to getting crud on their edge connector, which can be tricky to shift.

Re: Memory Expanssion questions
Sounds like you're only getting about 8K. With 16K expansion you should see 19697 Bytes free. Have you tried different combinations of switch positions, do you definitely have the correct combination? If so, maybe you have a dud chip in the RAM pack, or maybe there could be a dud trace on the connec...

Re: 1530/1531 Datasette Unit - How many made?
Hi Orion70, thank you for the info, that was some good research. I think 15 Million Units probably does stand a VERY good chance of making it the best selling deck ever. That massive figure of 186 Million for the Sony Walkman that you mentioned is for every single version of it, and there were possi...

Re: 1530/1531 Datasette Unit - How many made?
I think the question is interesting, it would be fun to know how many C2Ns were sold in the whole Commodore 8 bit history. Would they turn out to be the most successful tape player ever, well, we would know that 80's boomboxes lost their war against computer nerds :) Which would be pretty funny! Th...

1530/1531 Datasette Unit - How many made?
Hi fellow VIC fans, does anybody know how many 1530/1531 C2N Datasette units were sold in total? Elsewhere on the internet we're trying to work out what the biggest selling cassette deck of all time was, I have thrown the C2N into the ring. I realise that by the time the C64 turned up loads of peopl...

Re: Brand new Choplifter on Ebay!
Don't be too sad Orion70, I think it's £199 for all 20 of them, which makes each one £9.95, you didn't sell the family silver after all!
I agree that it's a fun and impressive looking game. I think another impressive one from that era, albeit on tape, is Skyhawk.

Re: Brand new Choplifter on Ebay!
I was disappointed with Choplifter for VIC-20. The first and only time I played it, I saved all the people and the game was over. You never level up, you just win, and it's super-easy. Number Nabber-Shape Grabber has more replay value. I've never stuck with it long enough to reach the end. I always...

Brand new Choplifter on Ebay!
20 of them, brand new, starting at £199. Nothing to do with me, I just happened to look at what VIC 2o goodies may be lurking there, and I saw that.
I was sorely tempted, but there is no point, I have a Mega Cart, maybe others may be interested though.

Re: Commander X16
This looks like an interesting project. If David can get these somewhere approaching the $50 mark he originally intended, I'd probably get one. I think I like the look of this more than I do the Mega 65. At first I thought do we really need yet another Commodore retro machine/emulator thingy, but I ...

Re: Sargon II Chess
It's certainly one of the better early era Chess programs. I've never beaten it, best I've managed is stalemate, quite often. I'm not a great player though.

Re: Sargon II Chess
Well, what an unexpected turn of events! In a mammoth match the VIC 20 playing Sargon II in the White Corner, and the ZX Spetrum playing Sinclair/Psion Chess in the Black Corner - and the VIC 20 won!!!! The VIC 20 was set to level 1 of 7, the Spectrum was set to level 3 of 10, I felt that this shoul...

Re: Sargon II Chess
ROUND 1 ZX SPECTRUM 48K using Sinclair/Psion Chess Vs Dragon 32 using Cyrus Chess The Spectrum Game has 10 difficulty levels, as opposed to the Dragon's 9. The first game was played with both machines set at difficulty level 2, and the Dragon playing White. The Dragon won in 22 moves. +Denotes Check...

Re: Sargon II Chess
When you play chess programs against each other, how do you decide what levels to use? At higher levels, these games could go for a long, long time. I guess the higher the level, the more interesting the match is. But making it at the highest levels available in the corresponding programs would req...
