One quick idea: if random monster encounters (if there are any) only happen once per turn (not step), then being cautious is discouraged by less obnoxious ways than pure input tedium.R'zo wrote:In this way will = inertia

Re: (wip) Final Quest
Thanks for the lenghty reply.
Re: Hat Trick
I have not had the time to play it that much but I can for sure say that it is much more playable with the black helmet fix. I'm glad I was (gently) pushed to implement it. It turned out more important than I thought it was. I did fiddle with the graphics but only for a very short time. Those look ...

Re: My first month with Windows 10
I'm under no illusions here. Suggesting that Microsoft does not need your data because they have your money tends on the side of denial. There's that sweet 3rd party money to be had. As soon as you connect a computer to the 'net, all bets are off. For most personal computers today, the OS isn't any...

Re: (wip) Final Quest
I gave this a quick spin. The movement method seems needlessly cumbersome. If the collision damage was not "speed" reliant, I'd suggest hotkeys for moving 1 step to each direction. Perhaps there is some neater solution?
Re: Hat Trick
I have watched a lot of hockey over the years, and this game surely have a lot of hockey feeling to it. I actually hate hockey (and most other sports). I see this game as an evolved pong variant. To each their own; glad you like it! And there is nothing on the Vic-20 even comparing in the genre. I ...

Re: My first month with Windows 10
Microsoft doesn't need your data, because they already have your money. My point was that Microsoft can force updates. If you do not control what runs on your computer, whose is it? Good luck trying to grasp the entire source of any contemporary OS. Indeed. However, my point is the ability (and per...

Those stars should be quotation marks given the Microsoft remote control and the built-in spyware. Not that I would call anything "mine" if I wasn't allowed to recompile it.Mike wrote:That PC is *mine* now.
Re: Hat Trick
Are there any changes since the release candidate? Yes. The music was bugged when it was restarted after a game. The music frequency toggling interval is longer. This version needs only 24k for the player 2 graphics. Sadly I couldn't get your tremolo idea working to my liking (the code is there if ...

Re: VICrossroads
So, how does one start with porting a c64 game to the vic-20? The most important step is to choose a game which can be ported with acceptable effort and reasonable likeness to the original. I guess one could do a recreation based on observation of the game in action, but for a more faithful port th...

Cool idea! I will have to try that.

Tried but failed to make it sound the way I liked. The tremolo attempt code is there if someone wants to tinker with it.

Re: Patch a game from TAP to D64?
The LOAD replacement seems to EOR every byte with the previous one, with the initial previous value of the load destination MSB and new seed taken from $AF every $100 bytes. Some copy protection scheme? Without looking at the actual files, it seems that fixing the EOR'd files should be simple enough...
