I don't agree on "virtually indestructable". Have you ever had a tape that breaks in the middle of a program being loaded? Perhaps a tape which winded itself around the mechanism, resulting in a "fur ball" of tape? In that respect, I think 5.25" floppies are just as durable...

For VIC programs, there are more variations among tape decks than disk drives. I've recorded programs on tape that could not be read on another drive because they were slightly out of sync/alignment. I've never had this problem with disks. I also have tapes I have received from other programers yea...

I think it would be worth having them populated by the board design place, or elsewhere if you know a board manufacturer who could do that. I don't see any reason to have you hand-make each one, unless you really enjoy it (which you may!) or unless the cost is totally unreasonable. We haven't discu...

One of the reason floppy disks are less reliable is because the amount of data stored on outer tracks (cylinders) is just about the same as that stored on inner cylinders which are much smaller. Altough this is less obvious on a 1541, for example, which does have fewer sectors on inner tracks than o...

It works but it is so incredibly painfully slow!

Any other suggestion would be appreciated.

:( I do not want to use the parallel port anymore :(

I just wanted a way to expand my d64s from a 1581 to a 1541.

15. You prefer a good game of Omega Race to playing anything on a playstation 3 or XBox 360. And if you noticed the above then yes, you too are a hopeless retro-computer geek. Then I am DOOMED man... BTW, I still get to be labeled as a VIC-20 nerd but Bacon is labeled "for breakfast"...

The are SCSI only cards. They were recovered in 1992 so I suspect these are all ALF 3. I will try to inspect.

New PC = no more Star Commander

Back in november my PC's motherboard failed and I had to replace it with a new one that has the new kind of parallel port. It seems either star commander or my XE1451 cable is not compatible with these newer ports. Since then, I used 1581disk to transfer files back and forth between my PC and Commod...

We also need some breadboarding / prototype boards to really try the ideas out, I think. Are we at that stage yet? I am not sure but I believe I did mention I plugged an LS373 on a prototyping board with a vectorboard and wires going to the VIC's expansion port. I used it to control 8 LEDs by pokin...
