Re: Paddle Games

As such, I can only assume that the pot itself is at fault. no. that article talks about the jitter you get from dirty potentiometers *when turning* them. thats an entirely different problem. the same paddles that give crazy jitter here (when *not* turning them) on the vic20 give pretty stable valu...

Re: Paddle Games

gave it a quick try, cap in parallel to the paddle certainly has some interesting side effects - but it doesnt solve this problem :=) Since the paddle system of the VIC-20/C64 operates by checking how many pulses can charge a capacitor to a certain voltage level, what this is going to do is make al...

Re: Paddle Games

@eslapion well, supposedly, you just hook it up in a monostable configuration. When trigger is low, output is high until the cap is fully charged, then it goes low. So you can toy with it at different C and R values at pin 7. Now, I'm not sure what your plan is here, but a 555 timer for pwm is a coo...

Ooohhhh interesting! Then I hope there's a 555/556 timer in there somewhere! That would make my day!

Re: Paddle Games

@Eslapion In that project, the uController is required because of the PS/2 mouse protocol. Well, I was merely addressing this trend I see of people using micro controllers for literally everything! Even when it is counter intuitive or completely overkill. Kind of like people who use a Rasberry Pi B ...

Re: Paddle Games

I just checked UTsource, and the ATTINY13a is running for around 45-60 cents! Depending if you want SOP or DIP packaging. Still, that is freaking cheap! It's got way more ability than this type of project would need as well. If memory serves, it also has a permanent burn in option. You have to order...

Re: Paddle Games

If it was going to do anything at all, it would be there. if only :) I'm still not convinced this won't work at all...it hasn't even been tried yet. I am seriously getting a pair of paddles next week.[edit: I AM NOW!] [I think I got it... So you generate the charge sequences locally with a crystal ...

Re: Paddle Games

So maybe a couple of shift registers in series, with an open drain somewhere afterward, and then on the output of the second shift register its ANDED or NANDED, the open drain is turned off allowing a signal to go to the VIC I? Only 3 chips... What do you think? You speed up the signal? Likely, a mu...

Re: Paddle Games

no time atm to make some measurements... but it might be worth trying to add a cap from VCC to GND right at the VIC, it may or may not improve the situation. If it was going to do anything at all, it would be there. you need to connect it right at the VIC paddle pin, and probably a range of caps 1n...

Re: Paddle Games

Okay, good point. So the former might be worth a try, but if it is internal to the chip(and it very likely is), it is still buggered, or at least partially so no matter what. Now here is where I wish I had more knowledge on the subject, and perhaps you can help me finish this thought. In an LVDS cir...

Re: Text adventures

Crazy that this was so close to being done, and it's been in development hell for almost 7 years now, just waiting for a save/load function! Anything from TNT? There are 400+ adventure games waiting for the VIC 20 if he can muster those last few bytes! I reckon he has been busy with other things in ...

Re: Paddle Games

... There should be a way to do this just with passive parts. Possibly, even just one. I wouldn't go that far. The 1351 certainly doesn't only have passive parts. Counting the pulses certainly requires registered logic ICs. A couple more is required to interface the digital stuff with the analog si...

Re: Ultima - IT'S BACK... Race you to it!

That is madness to me. Some of my favorite games I have yet to rebuy copies of because I can't find copies for less than $100 dollars. No matter how good a game is or how much I would love to play it, it's not worth that much to me. Unless it's bundled with awesome accessories. Well, He did include...

Re: There's some stuff in my local Thrift store

Anyone in the Orange County area of California would probably love the store called recomp. I found it from someone posting in a similar thread on vcfed.org. They basically have knowledgeable people in computers who sometimes stock vintage stuff. At the time, they had dozens of MFM hard drives! You ...

Re: Paddle Games

Can you believe back around 2004, when I was still in university, I wrote a plan to make 'ideal' paddles while I was sitting in class and the teacher was boring. I LOST the sheet!! Ya, I can believe it...one time I made a formula, a single formula that would take a string of numbers and generate a ...
