Re: VICE - Write to Cart Image Possible?
Thanks Mike, I see what that is doing... adding the start address of the code so it is looks like a standard .PRG file. I need to learn more about VICE and The Kernal to continue on this path! I added the code, and saved the binary from $9FFE, and a total length of 8K + 2 Bytes. I setup VICE to have...

Re: VICE - Write to Cart Image Possible?
Thanks for the tip. I am not a regular emulator user, so I am not sure how to go from a binary file to the required .PRG directly from the assembler I am using (Kowalski Macro-assembler). I can save a binary image with an offset, but it has no concept of .PRG files. I should also mention that I need...

VICE - Write to Cart Image Possible?
Having looked through the VICE manual, and all settings I have no been able to find an option to allow the VIC-20 to write to a cartridge image loaded into Block-5. The reason I need this is because my real hardware prototype loads an auto start image to Block-5, which in my case is RAM. VICE loads ...

Re: VIC-2000 Expander. Modern Power Using Retro Parts!
I had a few hours of restful sleep a few weeks ago! Actually, I don't own a TV, don't read news, and don't enjoy non-technical socialization, so I seem to gain at least an hour per day of extra time that many don't have. Ever since I "unplugged", I seem to enjoy life so much more. I do wis...

Re: VIC-2000 Expander. Modern Power Using Retro Parts!
Creating schematics is mostly a new adventure for me, but I must say that Altium is a dream to work with compared to the other tools I have used. Since my workplace is in a college, I have access to many cool machines and software, which is why I decided to give Altium a try. When I was working with...

Nice looking board!
May I ask which PCB house you use?
I will be looking to make a few boards for various projects.

Re: Warning : Your VIC is now clasified as a Lethal Weapon!
Got a good chuckle form that one. ... and then I starting thinking about how something like that could be a reality in these crazy days! Looks like my VIC is finally on its way from "inspection". They probably unboxed it to play Jupitar Lander for a few days. Brad "SIR--STRATEGIC COMM...

Re: VIC-2000 Expander. Modern Power Using Retro Parts!
Holy sheet! I need a larger workspace in Altium. Using the OrCAD-E sheet size (largest template), I am already running short on space, and this is only the Video Buffer section of the board, which accounts for maybe 25% of what will be the entire design. http://lucidscience.com/temp/v2k/sch1.jpg The...

Re: Great price on LM323 VRegs for 2 Prong VIC
Very cool!
I will take shots of mine when I recap them all.
All but one are 2 prong early models, but I don't think any have such a low number.

Re: Best display for Vic20?
My trick is to only use the better quality 2 Prong VIC models, and to tweak the video amplifier for each display I use. For the Dell NTSC monitor I am currently using, I have the color amp almost full out. For an older CRT, I have to put it someplace in the center. It really makes a huge difference ...

Re: VIC-2000 Expander. Modern Power Using Retro Parts!
It doesn't take long to make a complete mess of the wiring! I found a way to eliminate the 74HC157 and replace it with 6 resistors and a diode. Since the Boot Loader only runs once on startup, a little 100 ohm brute force is ok. http://lucidscience.com/temp/v2k/V2K%20-%20026.jpg Once again, the spag...

Re: Warning : Your VIC is now clasified as a Lethal Weapon!
Good plan. I may have to replace all ROMs in case they meticulously duplicated the look of the original, replacing the insides with some type of radiation hardened ASIC that functions normally on the VIC bus, but later transmits encoded bursts of stored information when the bus is powered down. Come...

Warning : Your VIC is now clasified as a Lethal Weapon!
I found a nice VIC in the box on Ebay the other day, and since I have been saving my coffee money, I decided to add it to my collection. This is the first time I have purchased anything from EBay USA, but since shipping in Canada costs 5x the price of the item due to the use of snow machine couriers...
