Re: Verbix by Fabrizio-Caruso

Yeah, it's pretty bewildering. I didn't find any instructions, but think I figured out most of it Red area : This row is where you should form words. Yellow area & green area : Not sure if they differ in any meaningful way. Letters along the margin : Very confusing, I believe they are meant to r...

Re: Verbix by Fabrizio-Caruso

Certainly more cognitively demanding than most word games that are popular today on phones and the web :D There is about equal focus on puzzling (similar to 15-game sliding) and finding possible words among the random letters. You can't make more than one word at a time as only the word in the botto...

Re: Shuriken by Fabrizio Caruso

No, there is depth! On level 3 the Pengo influence makes itself clear. There are boxes to push around and block the cannon bullets and the static shurikens (the moving shurikens, however, destroy the blocks). This makes for much more strategic gameplay. I wish you could start at this level and didn'...

Re: Shuriken by Fabrizio Caruso

Hmm, I don't see much similarity to Pac Mac or Pengo. The gameplay seems more simplistic - just avoid 'em and collect 'em but with a lot of stuff moving in regular patterns and confusing the player. It reminds me of early Romik games, which often were a little quirky and had lots of single chars mov...

Re: Yewdow by inufuto 11/2023

This is a clever action puzzler with a nice big screen area, cute well-drawn characters, and a looping tune. Very much in the style of the early Vic 20 carts made by HAL Laboratory. This is the first Inufuto game I have played and I really must try more ones. Pity they aren't optimized for the Vic, ...

Re: Roguish by Marco Giorgini

Appealing graphics and many things going on here for an unexpanded game. But I think combat lets it down. I was unsure what happened - did I attack or was I attacked? Can I fight in only the left-right direction, or also up-down? A one-frame animation for fighting would provide some feedback that th...

Re: Santa's Sadistic Sleigh Service (VIC20+3k)

This might be even more aggravating than Flappy Bird! The instant death ground (mountain?) is the worst.

Playing with a joystick helped me a little but not much. I managed a score of 1980.

Re: Flappy Bird for the VIC 20 (unexpanded)

A faithful version - smooth, responsive, good-looking, and extremely hard!

I managed a score of 9 but most of the time just 2-5.

Re: Santa's Sadistic Sleigh Service (VIC20+3k)

Very punishing gameplay, but I guess that's the point... Super nice two-way scrolling in any case!

Re: New Game: Murderlize all Humans! - Vic20 +16k

The animations are really neat in this game :D At first, I wished for 8-way or 4-way shooting, like Berzerk or Amok. But soon I came to appreciate just having to focus on the left and right and adapting my movements to guard my head and feet. The beginning of Room 3 feels a little unfair though. I o...

Re: New Game: LIQUIDATOR

The screenshot made me think of Chris Ratcliffe's 1983 Vic 20 game Atom Smasher . But whereas that is an extremely hectic and downright chaotic arcade game, this was something completely different - a Sokoban game with Tetris bricks - A very nice concept! At first, I was a little confused and tried ...

Re: VIC-20+8k puzzler

This was entirely new for me. I have never encountered the pen-and-paper version and found even the "easy level" very tricky. Then I realized that I interpreted the corners the wrong way  Pretty sloppy of me as the title screen makes it perfectly clear how to read the graphics. It...

Welcome Neil, I am in awe of what you accomplished with the Vic 20. I don't think anything else I have seen in 2023 has impressed me quite as much.

Re: Mega Vault by Imagine .PRG file

This game has intrigued me for a long time. It reminds me of The Pit and Zorgon's Kingdom (though I'm sure it plays very differently!).

I was just finally going to test it and now see that I only have the tap-version. Where did you find the D64?
