Re: Megaton!

I never heard about Doughboy until last year when I was talking to my assistant T&F coach during training. I told him that my first computer was a Vic 20 and to my surprise he replied that so was his. Of course I wanted to know his favourite games and he mentioned a game called Doughboy that hi...

Re: Games with pixel screen scrolling?

There are quite a few from the 80s. While their scrolling bg often is rather sparse and only a small part of the screen, they are very often part of a parallax effect. Quadrant (1983). Unexpanded Moon Patrol clone. Lower layer/row moves at 4 pixels/step, middle layer at 2 pixles, upper layer 1 pixel...

I don't have access to a scanner right now, but I took a photo of the page. Let me know if it will do.

Absolutely, I would probably buy such a cartridge if the game turned out to be something really special. But I worry somewhat that it would become a new standard and devalue non-assisted games.

Re: Hardware assisted Games

Probably picking at straws here :) but so long as it doesn't require you to open up the case and change the main board, I would say that your comment is a bit misleading. It's made for the standard 2600 - the "modding" is achieved by the game itself - a precedent set by other games back i...

Re: Hardware assisted Games

They use an enhanced version of the custom Display Processor Chip that was originally used in Pitfall II. Here's an interview on Mappy https://www.vintageisthenewold.com/83-arcade-mappy-by-namco-being-ported-to-the-atari-2600-and-we-interviewed-the-developer/ John: Any games before 2016 were written...

Re: Hardware assisted Games

His previous game Mappy looked even more impressive, but they are both made for a heavily upgraded Atari 2600.

Re: Scorpion (Tronix)

I love Radar Rat Race and Rally X as well. Ditto. A simple way to descripe Scorpion would be: Rally X crossed with Centipede, and it's extremely fast. There was an article, a year ago or so, about Tronix in Retro Gamer. Jimmy Huey did several Vic games and remained in the game industry for a long t...

Re: Work in progress: REALMS OF QUEST V

Of course I am interested in the game, but I would be even more interested in a book on how to make a game like ROQV for Vic!

Re: Scorpion (Tronix)

It's a very special Vic game. An action packed 4-way scrolling game is in itself rare, but its standout feature is its living, breathing world, where enemies interact and evolve. I remember a childhood friend saying: "Who needs a C64 when you can play Scorpion on your Vic?". At that time I...

Re: Zombie Calavera Prologue

The game is just as fast and as responsive as it looks to be on the video. However, it is very important to read the instructions before you play. The spooky silhouette graphics are not just for style, they are for stealth too. Very cool! Instructions (from Mojon Twin's site http://www.mojontwins.co...

Re: Zombie Calavera Prologue

@hasseapa: really like the redesigned Moon, especially the spooky clouds variant. Makes one think about doing a whole themed picture (in MP ) from this. Thanks, yes that would be my choice too. It would look even better with moving clouds and a flickering moon :P Feel free to use the graphics...

Yeah, I almost expected that after having seen the full map of the Spectrum game.

Thanks a LOT for the game! I hope to have a first go later tonight.

Re: Coming soon : Zombie Calavera Prologue

I guess the most simple solution to the moon borders would be a coarse black outline. It would require 8 additional chars though. moonoutline64x64.png Note that this is the Spectrum version moon + outline (i.e. square pixels and Spectrum colors). The outline can be camouflaged further in many ways: ...
