Re: New release: Underwater Basket Weaving

I was stunned when I saw this title. My father would always call any subject/course or sport he didn't understand either 'underwater basket weaving' or 'underwater knitting'. Here was me thinking he made that up.. There is a lengthy Wikipedia article on the idiom. Apparently it is of US origin and ...

Re: New game in progress: Breakaway

Best of luck, Vic certainly is in dire need of more sport games!

There are very few, but a hockey game was actually ported a few years ago viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8274&p=90936&hilit ... ick#p90685

Quite different from your game though.

Re: New release: Underwater Basket Weaving

I can't think of any similar game. Are there any? Mindbusters from Compute! magazine was similar in that you were trying to match a predefined pattern. But yeah, the weaving mechanism is a new one on me. Both a clever puzzle and an appealing presentation. Thanks, I looked up Mindbusters, but as you...

Brilliant! I can't think of any similar game. Are there any?

Very well executed too.

I had troubles grasping the concept and how to think at first, but after a while I got good at it.

Re: Jump

Just as playable as Fall, but also just as hard. I seemed to do better when I put my face really close to the screen. After a few tries I managed to improve my 34 PR to 41.

Re: Fall

These kinds of games are really very interesting. A very humbling experience on how hard it is to attain split vision, or rather, split focus. I suppose it is highly trainable, but while it took some training to reach 49, I still made beginner misstakes the very next try.

Re: Cheesy Trials

Phew! I did the first 12 levels in one go. I probably found level 7 & 8 the hardest, but perhaps I got better at it at the end. The time limit is always very tough. Puzzle platformers are my cup of tea so it was still a pleasure. Thanks to the very quick nature of the levels and the fact that th...

Re: Sub Med for Unexpanded VIC-20

Yes, it definitely felt that way (ambulatory maze), which I appreciated. Pushing in all directions would probbaly require additonal game element to still make it challenging and, as you say, make it a very different game.

Re: Sub Med for Unexpanded VIC-20

Very nice. The pushing ability makes a big difference. I wonder how it would play if you could push in all directions.

BTW, Helix Colony also impressed me. Funnily enough I have yet to try Turtle RescueBot. 'Funnily' because it has so many ingredients to my taste.

Re: [WIP] Little Fish Big Tale

The artist did a fantastic job in bringing out so much character of a 8x8-pixles single color fish - and it looks even better in wide Vic pixels.

Re: Games we want to see

*) I actually think Star Wars on the C64 didn't use any kind of 3D engine to speak of. The shapes were most probably precalculated for different sizes and orientations of the TIE fighters and explosions. There are actually two C64 conversions of the original aracde game. The '84 version is probably...

Misfit, The Christmas Elf Torturer

I haven't had the time to test it yet. I love Chistmas themed games and I love Misfit's game, but I am a bit unsure about this one

Re: New Game: Pumpkid

I had a quick go and, yes, very polished. The Game Over and Level Completed screens are really nicely done. Playfield/graphics reminded me of Jeff's It Came From The Grave so I had a quick go at that one too. Time flies. Last year's Halloween game was Zombie Calavera Prologue. It's a nice tradition ...

Well written reviews and some really good points on the game play. I will return to them when I return to those games.
