Re: New physical cartridge release: Cheese And Onion
it wont cause any serious damage... perhaps the contacts corrode a bit (because of the different metals) but thats all (and it can be fixed/cleaned easily). back in the days tons of cartridges existed that didnt have gold plated contacts, and you didnt see machines dying left and right because of th...

200kHz is barely enough to work with audio.... useless for anything else :=)

Re: PC COM port to Vic interfacing
*shrug* how you connect them depends on their logic =P you cross rts/cts for nullmodem, but thats probably not what you got there. it makes sense to have only one of the two (the PC is kinda infinitely fast, the other side may be slow), but i forgot which goes in which direction =P

Re: PC COM port to Vic interfacing
the hardware flow control is essential for slow devices (like the VIC20, or any other 8bit computer for that matter). thats pretty much the reason for why it exists

Re: PC COM port to Vic interfacing
you pretty much want one that has RTS/CTS wired up - i'd just look (eg on jim brains site) for a c64 userport rs232 interface, it should work on vic20 too

Re: Paddle Games
As such, I can only assume that the pot itself is at fault. no. that article talks about the jitter you get from dirty potentiometers *when turning* them. thats an entirely different problem. the same paddles that give crazy jitter here (when *not* turning them) on the vic20 give pretty stable valu...

Re: Paddle Games
If it was going to do anything at all, it would be there. if only :) [I think I got it... So you generate the charge sequences locally with a crystal of some sort? Thereby, bypassing the VIC entirely, except to tell it when something happened!] what the circuit needs to do is first "look"...

Re: Paddle Games
gave it a quick try, cap in parallel to the paddle certainly has some interesting side effects - but it doesnt solve this problem :=) no time atm to make some measurements... but it might be worth trying to add a cap from VCC to GND right at the VIC, it may or may not improve the situation. that sai...

Re: Paddle Games
I don't see a reason why the check should be *disabled*. As proven by the driver an Amiga-mouse can be polled on the VIC-20 as well, so it should be possible to provide this functionality on the v5 as well (as it already *was* possible on the v3). Thanks since there is exactly zero software for the...

Re: Paddle Games
v5 will have jumpers so you can override the autodetection, so you can also use amiga mouse (or ST mouse) - i could enable the middle button check for vic20 though if there is demand for this. and sure, paddles only work for one player :) its quite nice though, the games i tried play better with mou...

Re: Paddle Games
totally. in fact, i have implemented this for the upcoming micromys v5 adapter - and its rock stable.I think nowadays, it should be pretty simple to make a 'perfect' or 'ideal' paddle for the VIC-20 using tricks similar to those employed by the 1351.

Re: Paddle Games
added Space Snake and Star Post to that list... tokra: try replacing the two existing caps. perhaps try larger values (two or three times as much or so). adding one near the VIC may help too. what you can also try is adding a cap in parallel to the poti inside the paddle (in fact, some paddles alrea...

Re: Cartridge designs released - Eagle PCBs
two possible reasons:If that's true I wonder why Commodore didn't do it that way? Maybe they had a ton of stock to get rid of or something.
1) they can produce the ICs themselves and then they are very cheap
2) ICs could be machine picked/placed and soldered - that makes the production cheaper

You didn't include a quote of what you were answering to... you can safely assume that if someone doesnt explicitly quote ... then he is directly answering to the previous post in the thread. This site mentions a method with an alignment disk or commercially prepared. I guess that could be any boug...
