Re: In the making: Arukanoido – an Arkanoid clone

Gave 1533 a test run on my PAL- and NTSC-VIC with paddles just now. Videos below. What I noticed: - paddle-jitter is worse on PAL than on NTSC, but not really nice in either case. You can see the Vaus flickering in the videos. Would really appreciate the dejittering-technique reactivated - entering ...

Re: Change screen size and position at a mid point?

Is it possible to change the Vic registers that affect the width (chars) of the screen and start horizontal position at a fixed point down the screen? Eg like a split screen you see on other computers. What I would like to achieve is a small fixed area at the top or bottom for a score and status ar...

Re: In the making: Arukanoido – an Arkanoid clone

Tiny observation. On the spaceship intro with the flickering.... There are a couple of pixels flickering that shouldn't where the right engines meet the body. Can you tweak the image so that those pixels become part of the hull and thus don't flicker as it spoils the effect. I still think raster-ef...

Re: In the making: Arukanoido – an Arkanoid clone

Also perhaps you can make the engines flicker on the spaceship on the intro screen - that would add a lot and should be fairly easy without doing the full animation? I've found that it's anything but. It'd take cycle-exact raster interrupts because the border colour has to be used. I really don't f...

These are two pics from my NTSC-VIC-20 connected via S-Video to a LCD-TV for comparison:

Re: Colour blue on NTSC VICs.

Just checked. Green looks like Cyan on my VICE as well. That is only with the internal palette, however. If you choose "Mike (NTSC)" as external palette in Settings-Display-VIC-VIC palette it looks more like green, and this palette was derived my Mike from the results from my personal NTSC...

Re: Colour blue on NTSC VICs.

This is not happening in VICE for me. Both WinVICE 3.2 and the latest GTK VICE 3.7.1

Bricks are blue as they should be. You picture shows them as a blue outline with red stripes inside? Strange. I'd suggest deleting the vice.ini and starting fresh.

Re: In the making: Arukanoido – an Arkanoid clone

Tried to un-jitter things but I lack logical reasoning. Messed up the game play. Some years back when Mike did his Paddlescope-program I de-jittered two Paddle-games (Clowns and Super Smash), but never released them. The idea is to take the middle of two consecutive values and use this as the new P...

Re: In the making: Arukanoido – an Arkanoid clone

Other problems? Well, all the work with doing a cartridge, like the PCB and the cases, burning ROMs, putting it all together and the shipping and so on. Are Mega Cart, Penultimate and FE3 are the most commonly used expansions? I would guess so. There seem to be a lot self-built FE3 around in German...

Re: In the making: Arukanoido – an Arkanoid clone

You could do VIC-sound on one side of the tape and samples on the other. Not a big fan of the samples myself, it's nice that it works but the VIC-sounds are much clearer and otherwise just as good. Regarding expansions: Nowadays most expanders will provide +35K (Penultimate, FE3, MegaCart). So that ...

Re: In the making: Arukanoido – an Arkanoid clone

Not sure if requiring +37K is a good idea, I can only think UltiMem supporting this. I tried the 1388 demo in VICE with only +35K and it was still working as far as I can see. What is the 37K used for? ($9800-$9fff) If space is tight, I would propose two different versions for normal music and sampl...

Re: I/O0 and illegal opcodes

I'd say if the illegal opcodes are used unintentionally and serve no true purpose (i.e. making code faster or more compact) they warrant a crack/hack to improve them. Otherwise I only know of VIC Doom that uses illegals, and Kweepa already regrets this since the effect seems minor. One of my graphic...

Re: Super Monza Grand Prix

Wow, this looks really polished now and the extra courses and pitstops are nice addons! If you can still add things (+35K instead of +32K for example) some "racing"-music at the menu / title display or sounds for the traffic lights at the beginning would be nice. While this is now a great ...

Re: New Release: PETSTRIP for PET/CBM 3032 and 4032

Thanks, surprisingly the general technique for this was already done in March 1980 and is even a testprog in the VICE-repo: https://sourceforge.net/p/vice-emu/code/HEAD/tree/testprogs/PET/hi-res/ You can read more about that in the original magazine on archive.org: https://archive.org/details/Cursor...
