Rn1 is a resistor ladder used to pull up the lines, I used a 4.7K but other values will work too.

The reason I mentioned the pen is because some years back when I received it, I fixed a couple Sinclair ZX-81 keyboard ribbons with it. I just drew over the existing traces and then encapsulated it in Scotch brand cellophane tape front and back. They still work fine to this day.

Unfortunately the prime suspect in these cases is the VIC chip. They are hard to come by and expensive. Not saying for sure it is, but it's a good possibility. The fact that you can hear sound is a good sign since the VIC chip also does the sound.
