Very good, but I count five lines of BASIC.

Thanks Mike. Two basic lines of four physical lines each, then that's what I'll be aiming for. I'll disregard Shaun.Bebbington's remark about the 640 bytes. It's a reference to Bill Gate's supposed claim that 640 Kilobytes ought to be enough for anyone (that's only part of what he said, as I recall...

"the first line should be used for variables, functions and data" could you clearify what that does actually exclude? my code usually purely consists of variables, functions and data. It's just a rule of BASIC, isn't it? You can't declare a variable in line 200 to use in line 100 without ...

Does anyone know if the Comet64 modem will work on the VIC-20 for Twitter? As Peter would like to try this.

Gaming like it's 1983...

A friend of mine, who is quite a bit younger than the VIC-20, has my VC-20 for a few weeks to write all about it. He grew up with the GameCube, and his findings will be published in Micro Mart here in the UK. Twitter announcement or something . I've suggested joining here, so be nice to him if he jo...

Sounds like the mighty SP0256-AL2 chip ;) Good stuff...I'm actually looking into this as well. Might give Speech Chips site a go...nice stuff It's a Texas chip, so I suspect it's the one that's in the Speak n' Spell :-) If it'll work with my Stack RAM-Pack (with pass-through), I might do a little d...

Talk back cartridge from Maplins.

A while ago, I found this speech cartridge from Maplins. Well, as real life means that I'm usually too busy, I don't usually get to play with this stuff. But tonight, I thought that I'd give it a go as my 4 year old daughter likes playing VIC-20 games. She thought that it sounded funny, and wanted m...

Hello from er... the West Midlands (mostly) and Cheshire (sometimes). I really like the VIC (and secretly prefer it to the C64, but don't tell anyone).

If you ever venture over the border into the Midlands, give me a shout or something ;-)

Shaun.

Commodore FREE One Liners competition.

Commodore FREE is running a One Liners competition to link in with the publication of this book . All Commodore 8-bit formats are welcome, and your program must be a maximum of two lines (so there are two categories: genuine one liners, and two liners). The two line thing is to compensate for the la...

I concur with the other poster(s) for an 'extra RAM' version with either a bigger play area or more bits added to the game mechanic. Playing this game is quite hypnotic :-)

Yes, of course, the Commodore 64 "tweeted" awhile ago. And the C64 was not the first "vintage" device to do so either. However, the point of this story is that a) This is a VIC-20 Tweeting. NOT a Commodore 64. b) Contiki was used on the C64. The VIC version uses only an unexpand...

I thought that the C64 was the first computer with a 'Twit' facility? I'm sure Nigel was talking about it, so this isn't a world's first afterall.

EDIT: Yep, Commodore 64 users could be Twits before this VIC-20 development, as in Commodore Free.

Avoid by Darren Lee, 1982

Avoid has been promptly reviewed in Micro Mart, and should appear in the next few weeks. I'll post a copy of the review when the mag is out of print.

Shaun.
