Re: Doom Video glitch problem "SOLVED"
It's taken me an awful lot of time and brain energy to finally figure out the cause of this problem, and in a way I am pretty annoyed at myself as to the cause, but at the same time I have learn't bucketloads about how the Vic-20 works so definitely not wasted time in that respect. I even went down ...

Re: play a dump of NTSC cartridge on a PAL Vic-20
I can sort of understand His situation considering the hard work He put in there, I'm only interested in running it from a SD2IEC though.
Doesn't matter though, I'll figure out how to fix any more if I need to.

Re: play a dump of NTSC cartridge on a PAL Vic-20
First of all apologies for resurrecting a 7 year old thread, but I am wondering if anyone here has the PAL fixed games archive that nbla000 had on His website, now dead. I have fixed Buck rogers to run on my Pal Vic and it works great, but would like the rest of the archive if possible? Hopefully so...

Re: Recommend a cheap EPROM programmer?
I bought a Willem (cheap chinese clone model) from ebay. So far I have used it to burn C64 roms, Ti99/4a roms, and program a Pic chip so I can use a standard PS/2 mouse on my amiga 500, with db9 to ps/2 adaptor. The Willem is probably the most versatile, but a drawback is that You have to have a PC ...

Re: Damaged mechanic of SHIFT-LOCK key
I had a similar problem with the one on my Early Vic-20 with Pet style keyboard when I first got it. The only solution was to dismantle it which ended up being touch and go as far as fixing or destroying it. Fortunately I mostly fixed it, as in it works properly about 80% of the time. I can't really...

Re: VIC-1211 Super Expander WITHOUT 3K
More likely the "A" in the 1211A is a revision letter. Possibly they corrected a minor problem.

Re: Doom Video glitch problem
Apologies for the delay, got sidetracked with other retro computer stuff. I don't seem to get any errors at all from what I can tell, the program was running well over 15 minutes in a loop (video clip cut short deliberately). Youtube vid attached. Let me know if I stuffed it somehow by modifying the...

Re: Doom Video glitch problem
Thanks heaps for that, I'll give that a run and report back, likely before the Formula 1 race starts tonight (I'm in Australia).
Here is the 32k expansion I built.

Re: Doom Video glitch problem
Update No Dice I'm afraid. I pulled the Rom chip out of the superexpander and it made no difference at all. I still have those black vertical lines where wall should be. Unless someone has another suggestion I'll order some 27c64 Eproms, make an adaptor socket, then start with the character Rom firs...

Re: Doom Video glitch problem
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am the same Imperious from Lemon64, I was registered here before but some serious screw up happened when I tried to retrieve my password and all my posts got deleted. Change of email address happened a bit later too. I forgot to add that i'd tried disconnecting the Rom c...

Doom Video glitch problem "SOLVED"
Hi Everyone. My Early model Vic (Pet style keyboard PAL unit) has a weird glitch, especially noticeable running Doom. As You can see black vertical bars where wall graphics should be. https://youtu.be/VK87c0O4fno I have a self made 32k expansion as well as the 3k Super expander to give the 35k extra...

Re: VIDEO Problem with VIC-20 NTSC
Looks like a faulty Character Rom to me. From Ray Carlsen's repair info UD7 901460-03 ROM CHARACTER Startup screen characters missing (just blocks or flashing lines where characters should be) and alphanumerics missing from games. Game carts that use mostly graphics characters may look normal while ...
