Re: PAL 6561E version - Schematics
I have a 6561-101 in my Vic-20 that originally had a 6561E, there are no compatibility issues. Mine is a Pet style keyboard model. You can get replacements here, just pick a seller with a good rating and good comments. http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20151219000605&a...

Re: Problems with a VIC-20
Hi, I would try checking the internal fuse, if it is blown the datasette won't work. That would probably only be the problem on a newer Vic that uses a c64 type power supply though, not the older ones like mine that has only 9-11v AC input. If that isn't it try swapping the 6522's if possible, hopef...

Re: NEW GAME RELEASE - Rush (2015) by Revival Studios
Looks a bit like a Vic-20 version of Annabildt, or however You spell it.
But aside from that, I wouldn't purchase any game without at least a Youtube video that shows me
what it plays like.

Re: Strange characters when you first turn and then black sc
Hi Michele. You may have to google translate my English into Italian. First of all I would check the power supply voltages with a multimeter, just in case something isn't right. You could have faulty RAM, check to see if it is hot. Another possibility is the VIC chip could be faulty, but hopefully n...

The Original Poster here was polite at all times, so seems a bit unfair that this ended as abruptly as it did.
That's just my 2c, but given how small a community this is, we don't want it getting smaller.

Re: Blank screen VIC-20 -- seems to be power supply?
First of all make sure Your +5v is no more that + or - 0.25v. Your 6502 and 74ls138 are definitely fried if that hot. Just a tip for the 6502 replacement, do not fit a 65c02 as there are issues with some games due to the lack of undocumented opcodes. You can use R6502, UM6502, SY6502, CM630P. Of cou...

Re: The Science of RF Video Amplification
Can anyone that could provide a concise explanation of how video amplification works and whether or not it is worth the effort? I have several RF-out-only game consoles. I haven't been able to mod them for composite, so I am looking into a video switcher. I have a choice between amplified and non-a...

Re: VIC20 fuse blown as well the magnetic coil near the fuse
The output of the bridge rectifier is straight across the Big 4700uf capacitor, so that should measure 9v dc and maybe a bit more. If there is no voltage there put Your multimeter to ohms and hopefully there is not a short at that point. It's possible the bridge rectifier could be open circuit as we...

Re: Vic20cr woes,please help!
Sounds very much like Your dodgy power supply has fried the RAM chips and possibly the VIC chip too. The Ram chips should be ambient temperature only, the VIC chip will run very warm but not scolding hot. If You are in PAL land then the VIC chips aren't too hard to find if you know where to look, th...

Re: Vic20cr woes,please help!
Are You using RF or AV cables?, I assume if RF You have retuned your TV. Could be almost any shorted chip. The VIC will probably give a screen if both 6522's are removed, also You might get a screen with either character rom or basic rom removed, but only one at a time. Check to see if any chips are...

Re: VIC20 fuse blown as well the magnetic coil near the fuse
Charcoal if bad enough will measure as a short circuit. I remember that on a TV I repaired once, the thing was a writeoff. Try measuring ohms between the blue and red on the inductor holes nearest the switch, it shouldn't be a short. You should be able to measure low resistance (nearly a short circu...

Re: VIC20 fuse blown as well the magnetic coil near the fuse
Excellent thanks, that helps a lot.
I have edited One of the photos You posted to show where the AC signal travels.
Measure between the red and blue starting at the AC input and see how that goes.

Re: VIC20 fuse blown as well the magnetic coil near the fuse
All You need to do is solder a short piece of insulated wire between the 2 points that the switch connects together when the VIC is turned on, just as a temporary measure so you can hopefully figure out what else may be faulty before unnecessarily buying parts you may not need, although I'm a firm b...

Re: VIC20 fuse blown as well the magnetic coil near the fuse
I would short out the switch first and see if the VIC works before looking at replacing it.
Worst case scenario is the fuse will low indicating further problems.

Re: VIC20 fuse blown as well the magnetic coil near the fuse
Agree, 110v AC could well have fried the switch. You should have roughly 11v AC on the power supply socket and across the cap you
just replaced.
If the bridge rectifier is shorted, the fuse will blow, so it can only really be a burn't pcb track or blown switch.
