Re: How to read bits from tape
Ehem, well While what I wrote is out of the reference guide, what it didn't tell us off the bat was that there was a way to do this without a soldering iron. Address 911d has something to do with it, and a section of a register called CB2? I have to admit it is freakin greek to me guys. I looked at ...

Re: How to read bits from tape
According to the programmer's reference guide, unlike most of the other commodores, the VIC-20 6522 VIA chip actually works! This would mean that the bits are transparent to the user. The way it is supposed to work in most cases is that the VIA chip grabs all the bits one at a time and shifts them u...

Re: How do you clear the screen in machine language?
Might be a good idea to clear the screen memory with your own code instead of using the kernal,if your going to program the VIC in assembly, starting with small routines/code is a good idea. Even some of the most picky assembly folks on denial use the kernal routines as a convenient library of comma...

Re: Release: Night of the Ninja
Just had a play on this for the past 45 minutes or so. I'm a Master Ninja, managed to rack up 190 points! You are a master ninja among mere mortal gamers... I really want to beat this now. PS I didn't read the spoiler! Jeff, you mean to say you actually played the entire game through for each test ...

Re: Werewolves for vic 20
There are also a gaggle of tools that Gislain made back in the day. I added one program to this collection which allows for full screen character graphics to be saved. I am also working on a similar mod for that application which allows for macro animation to be pulled directly into a buffer or onto...

Fun AI Program for Pathfinding with A Rat in A Maze
[Edit: needs at least +8K. Another thing I noticed is that you have to delete the crappy test maze on the disk manually before you can save yours. Don't use the test maze because it has no start point, and will cause an error. Type open15,8,15,"s0:maze":close15 . After that you can save yo...

Re: Mikro Assembler annoying bug!
Yes I see that this problem does not exist with a PAL VIC. Are you aware of any magic pokes that can restore the screen back to its original NTSC position? This will do the trick. I did a quick check of the program to see if I can find where it is changing the screen, but I can't find it as of yet....

Re: My BASIC Roguelike
Hey this game is actually really fun! I didn't mind the squirrely keys very much(you can just hold down the key). This reminds me of outpost II for the PC, which is one of my all time favorites. There are some things I can't seem to get going though. Max I was able to stay alive was 9 days(without c...

Re: My BASIC Roguelike
I am going to test this game out later. I am no machine language expert, however, I did try out the code in a monitor. The behavior is truly bizarre. However, I did just happen to see a working version of what this code is trying to do earlier today: If you have a monitor cart, the routine in action...

Re: 40 column routines (split from: Two Days to the Race)
I have a fully functional 40 column extension that I found a while ago... oddly enough, there is a 35 year old Easter egg buried in it that i discovered today while code fixing it. Apparently, the person who made it must have been playing a finnish version of seawolf or something similar when he up ...

Pretty cool! I can't get past the second castle though  High score 36 so far. Are you supposed to be invulnerable when on a lantern? This trick saved me a couple of times. Just tried this game...after a while I got just exactly this score. 36. Did you ever beat this game from start to finish...

Hey, I just found this! I just wanted to say thanks for making this suite of goodies available. I am toying with finally making an actual game for the VIC-20, and I really needed a character designer/music generator/splash screen creator. Then, I found your utility suite! I'm trying out the characte...

Re: Aztec Challenge on the Vic-20
I'm in the process of working through Arma's tape game collection. A while back I discovered this archive, and thought it would be cool to put all these games back onto real tapes with their covers and all! It was the first time I had ever seen an archive of the actual tape sleeves included with the...

Re: VIC-20 Startup Sequence
I have my own resource, "Data Becker VC-20 intern", in German. Lucky duck! Data Becker/Abacus wrote the best commodore books of all time. Several were translated into English, but not all, sadly. I have their 2 pass assembler program/basic assembler screen editor, and as well I ...

Re: Load VIC-20 Tape Images
Wasn't really trolling, just stating a fact. I can prove this fact because what he suggested is a real product which was developed for data recovery a few years back. Specifically, the Kryoflux floppy disk system which uses a modern-ish 2SHD floppy disk drive/5.25"/8" drive, modified to re...
