Re: Paddles.

My approach to working paddles has been a combination of buying several sets over the years and using spray contact cleaner on the pots. Some of the paddles were DOA and the contact cleaner did nothing, whereas others were helped by the contact cleaner. Maybe in the 80s I had paddles that didn't nee...

Re: The Computer Chronicles

I watched the Computer Chronicles through the 80s and 90s. I still watch old episodes of the show every few years for fun. I wish there was still something like it, even online. These days there doesn't seem to be similar straightforward "no nonsense" reporting about tech (or anything else...

Once you get started, the VIC-20 can be addictive :D

Re: Intellivision and ColecoVision flashbacks

Agreed. Both of these systems look fun, especially at $40/each :)

Even with plenty of original hardware and emulation options, I've had a lot of fun with "plug and play" consoles.

Re: Which computer will be the most valuable in year 2050?

An interesting question. Every time I come up with an answer I think of new reasons a different computer might be more valuable :D Rarity is only a driving factor if people actually want it, also requiring enough people to know about it to want it. The Plus/4 may be the rarest but only 3 people may ...

Re: Best looking 8bit computer?

The Apple Lisa was 16-bit. My bad, I should have remembered that. It was such an early 68K machine. I'm sure that you have more important things to think about than the bitness of archaic computers :D There are so many interesting computer designs from the 80s. I wouldn't want to go back in time, t...

Re: Best looking 8bit computer?

The Apple Lisa was 16-bit. Early Macs were 16 as well, it wasn't until the late 80s that they were 32-bit clean. The Apple IIgs was also 16-bit even though it was compatible with most of the 8-bit Apple II library. Hence, these machines would all be eliminated from the "poll." Or maybe I'm...

Re: Vic-20 the kamikaze computer?

There's no doubt the NES was instrumental in "reigniting" home console gaming in North America. My beef with the current narrative about the "crash" was that the NES saved all video gaming, which is a nice story but patently untrue. The NES was the undisputed winner in late 80s N...

Re: Vic-20 the kamikaze computer?

The "video game crash" only occurred in the US. Outside of the US, in Europe and Japan, we merrily carried on playing games at home, but on computers instead, and Nintendo launched the Famicom in 1983, so it was like nothing really changed there. I'm from the US. I didn't see a video game...

Re: Best looking 8bit computer?

I second the Atari 800XL. It is sleek and well proportioned with those nice brushed aluminum accents. The cart slot on the top is a good thing. Although I wish the case was actually gray and black instead of light beige and dark brown. I prefer the appearance of the VIC-20 to the C64, specifically t...

Re: My future setup

I like it :) My setup is somewhat similar except I'm still waiting for my spot in the queue to get a Mega Cart. I don't have a printer, either, but that's because I haven't figured out a reason to have one. Then again, I still have a 1541 hooked up even though I use the SD for everything, so maybe I...
