Re: High density

Breaking news: at my office I've found two packs of 10 5.25" disks labeled "Magnum MD1D - Hub Ring - single side - double density - soft sectoring". Still SEALED in their plastic bag and jewel case! I wonder if I should use them or sell them :D Bonus: look what lies next to them (not ...

Re: High density

I'm no expert but it sounds like something that might happen in the long run and/or under extreme circumstances. Anyway, it looks like the OC-118 is one hell of a disk drive. Other than being back to normal with just a blow of compressed air from the outside, it was able to format, read and write to...

Re: New Release: Exit Plan Z 2

Good ideas! Kind of the same thinking I did in my Pyrotech with the weapons and the extra bombs, only in a zombified fashion. :D

Feature request: why don't you consider adding some more lives?
It's a bit frustrating when you make that small mistake and it's game over right away.

Re: JiffyDOS on Oceanic OC-118 aka Excelerator+

I can confirm that I can transfer data to/from the OC-118 with CBM Transfer (i.e. with opencbm) at a much faster rate than the stock 1541 speed. The problem is in VICE. VICE also uses opencbm, but no matter what I do, I can only get the stock transfer rates i.e. utterly slow. It would be nice to be ...

Re: High density

Do you actually mean the head itself can be damaged? Or the amplifier circuit mentioned by Mike?

Re: High density

Is there anything that was not discussed before on these boards?
I am relieved... and the drive is still working OK today. Thanks
The only drawback is I have broken the seals. I have voided the 1989 warranty

Re: High density

Oh no!!! I may have already, then  Before I realized I was using the wrong media, I formatted more than a dozen HDs... Then today I found some old DDs and wanted to transfer them to D64 files in order to reuse them. I successfully copied a few with CBM Transfer, then I started having er...

Re: Symbolic keyboard map for XVIC - Italian

This solution is similar to what is used in the italian symbolic key layout for x64, which I don't recall where I got from. I am working at my version of the x64 keyboard anyway, to match the xvic one. Once done, I'll give a whistle.

Re: Symbolic keyboard map for XVIC - Italian

I've decided to map three Commodore keys to unused keys, to solve the problem with the inability to access some PETSCII symbols due to the Italian keyboard layout: F9 doubles as + F10 doubles as £ F11 doubles as * This way you can get the symbolic intuitive key layout and still be able to access the...

High density

I bought a ZoomFloppy and recorded a batch of disks on my Oceanic OC-118 drive, with my VIC-20 game Pyrotech on them. I used a batch of new 5.25" unmarked disks I found in a closet; I don't remember where I got them from. I did have some problems as it sometimes required more than one attempt t...

Re: JiffyDOS on Oceanic OC-118 aka Excelerator+

I've found this rather unnerving page: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/zoomfloppy-users/QqU70vj9c0s They are saying that the ZoomFloppy can't use any speed loader or native DOS burst since it can't execute 6502 code. Is it so? Am I stuck with stock CBM speeds whenever I am using ZoomFloppy, ...

Re: Symbolic keyboard map for XVIC - Italian

There are a few issues to figure out before it can be committed to VICE. 1) in some cases I had to define two symbols (one not shifted and one shifted) for keys that, in the Commodore keyboard, have a single symbol and a PETSCII symbol. One such example is the " ' "/" ? " key whi...

Re: Symbolic keyboard map for XVIC - Italian

Another thing I realized is that whenever you define a symbol you don't need to also define the SHIFTed symbol if it matches the Commodore keyboard. I.e. you don't have to define SHIFT+1 in the Italian keyboard, as it's "!" both in the Italian keyboard and on the Commodore keyboard. Hence ...

Re: JiffyDOS on Oceanic OC-118 aka Excelerator+

Actually, the question can be expanded/morphed into a more generic one: which fast load methods are available in VICE using a ZoomFloppy/XUM1541 interface and a 1541 type drive? None of the fast loader cartridges I tried in x64 worked (by working I mean "it loaded the game from the real drive a...
