Re: VIC20 / C64 chargen

I just tried it and you are quite right!! Doesn't work at all. Characters look like random scuzz with the VIC-20 chargen.

VIC-20cr Reloaded?

Just stumbled on this ... http://www.6502.org/users/sjgray/projec ... index.html

Does anyone here know anything more about this project? Sounds intriguing.

Re: VIC20 / C64 chargen

Will try it and see. My plasma TV gets a much better picture from composite input than my old CRT did from the RF signal back in 1982! I think for TVs using the modulator you are probably tight that the C64 needed those fat characters to avoid colour fringing. I really don't like the C64 font and wo...

Re: VIC20 / C64 chargen

I am thinking with a modern TV and a composite connection (no RF) the VIC20 chargen is the better choice.
Since I have a few VICs I may 'borrow' the chargen from one of them for my C64.

VIC20 / C64 chargen

Is it just me that thinks the C64 looks way better with the VIC20 chargen ROM?

For that matter, the VIC looks much better with the C64 chargen too.

Maybe I will swap them!

RSS Reader v0.9

Here is v0.9 of the RSS Reader. The big improvement with this release is that the news feeds are no longer hard-coded. Now there is a config file (rss.conf) which allows you to configure your own feeds. See rss.readme for full details. The file is in ASCII, so you can edit it on a PC and just copy i...

Re: Release: CBC News App (RSS Reader)

In v0.8 you can hit space or return to pause the output. A page-by-page mode would be quite nice too, I agree!

Right now I am working on adding support for a configuration file so that you guys can add your own feeds. I should have a beta release for testing pretty soon.

Re: Modem

The WiModem wifi modem works very nicely on VIC-20!

The old Commodore modems still work as well if you want to connect with a regular phone line.

Re: Release: CBC News App (RSS Reader)

1200 is as fast as the kernal routines will go on either VIC-20 or C64. On the C64, if the commodoreserver.com drivers are loaded, it is possible to do 2400 baud also. In principal, 38.4Kbaud is also possible with the commodoreserver.com drivers (but I think the RSS Reader code would need to be modi...

Re: Release: CBC News App (RSS Reader)

I would love to get to the bottom of the issue with the random lockups. It is interesting to hear that it occurs with a device other than the WiModem. It seems that when we request a URL with a longer body (such as New York Times RSS feeds) then sometimes the body is truncated in the middle. I have ...

Re: RS-232

srowe modestly did not mention that they created a wedge that replaces the VIC-20's buggy RS-232 kernal code.

Hardware flow control seems to work with this RS-232 wedge. (At least I can use the RTS line to 'pause' and 'unpause' the modem.)

Read from RS-232, write to disk

I am trying to understand the riddle of how to receive data over RS-232 and write it to a diskette (SD2IEC) file. I have already established that if I do a naive read-a-byte write-a-byte loop, then the data obtained from RS-232 is corrupted. My next attempt is to read from RS-232 into a buffer. When...
