I really wished you'd said you were working on that... If I'd said you wouldn't have started yours and I wouldn't have been encouraged to say about mine. The only way that would have worked was if you had a time machine. Fantastic job though. It looks extremely complete. It's not, there's lots of t...

The only strange thing is that the on/off switch doesn't seem to work.
You seem to have another path to ground via your TV. Swapping the power pins over should get the switch working again.

the Vic I bought appears to be an older one with two bigs pins on the side. I've done some reading on here and it seems as though mine takes an unregulated 9V AC supply.
A 12V DC supply, connected either way round, will work just as well. You can even use the 12V from a PC power supply.

The TV set i was using was the culprit.
Unless the sets have stopped displaying anything in colour it is still more likely to be the VIC.

Yes, to thwart those who would try to run a ROM copy in RAM in BLK 5.

It can't hurt to try C48 on a DIN VIC or C32 on a two prong VIC.

It's the one nearest the XTAL.

Make a note of where it is before you start. Use a non conductive tool if you have one.

Genuine C= PSUs are interchangeable.

The C64 won't work on a PSU that has a 12V DC supply instead of the 9V AC supply, unlike the VIC.

More here.

I can't find any definitive values however a 16K RAM pack will draw about 250mA when in use while an earlier 8K RAM pack that could use NMOS or CMOS 1K x 4 RAMs warned to use only CMOS parts for more than 4K which, if NMOS, would draw 350mA. So from that I would say 250mA is always ok and 350mA is o...

Yes, it's broken. It seems to be the ARTILLERY II pogram not the TURTLE BASIC that's not working properly. Trouble is like all of Craig Bruce's programs it breaks if you try to change it. While on the subject of TURTLE BASIC does anyone have the destructions? I'm thinking of making it into a cartrid...

Check the volts across C1, the big electrolytic, it should be 12V - 14V DC. If there's nothing there, and S1 isn't open circuit, then the bridge rectifier has probably failed. If there is volts across C1 check across C3, should be 5V. If there is nothing then VR1, the 5V regulator, has failed. If th...

That might be a good method to also blow the audio amplifier circuit in the VIC-20.
Unlikely. The audio out can survive being shorted indefinitely.

This will get the Vic to make a tone .. POKE 36878,15 POKE 36875,200 Don't expect much output from the Vic. If I had to I would use stereo headphones but connect to the tip and the first ring so that both phones are in series. Pin 3 is audio out, pin 2 is ground. Of course if it doesn't work you won...

Well there's your problem. You need more amps and less volts. You need 9V AC or 12V DC, connected either way round, and at least two amps capability. Don't use more than 9V AC or you risk blowing capacitors inside the Vic. If you use 12V DC make sure it's a regulated 12V such as the 12V from a PC po...
