Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking less of paints, and more of a dye. As you say, paint will wear too quickly. I was hoping there may be a dye which would permiate into the plastic. The VIC is going into a C64C case which I'm painting blue, so I thought I could choose from any of the colour...

Colouring Keyboard Keys
Has anyone tried colouring keyboard keys, tinting them with dye or ink?
I'm modding a VIC-20, and would like to improve the appearance of it's discoloured keys by colouring them.
What works, and what doesn't?
Thanks,
Mike.

Bank Switched RAM Expansion >32k
If you were going to implement a bank switched RAM expansion that allowed more than 32k to be used during program execution, what is the most common method used? I've read this thread; http://sleepingelephant.com/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=931 Are there any other addressing mechanisms docum...

For the 2 that have blank screens, to determine if it is only the VIC chip, you could try typing in a sound command. If you can play sound, then the processor is running, and the video circuit is dead. It would be better if it was the other way around, and the processor was dead! At least you can ge...

I'd say that I would usually pay too much. I don't have time to go to gararge sales, so the only way I get stuff is through eBay. By definition, if I win an auction, that makes me prepared to spend more than everyone else. But I try not to be extravigant. My worst was probably AU$25 (incl postage) f...

The Planes have motors - about 5 - 6 cc. I fly control line stunt or precision aerobatics with them. The boat is a 12' sailing dinghy, made using plywood and epoxy lapstrake. That means it has planks, but they're glued with epoxy, rather than the traditional roves'n'rivets. Makes for an interesting ...

Nice layout in the games room. I, like you, have other hobbies which distract me from retro computing. These include control line model aeroplanes, and wooden boat building. You can imagine what it is like for me to share my shed with all those hobbies. I'm in the process of trying to improve my own...

Just about anything from the 1979 and before issues would interest =me=. :D As I recall there was an Australian 1802-based system. That would be of tremendous interest, but the other systems would be, too. I'm pretty much polyprocessor when it comes to 8-bit systems, and a special enthusiast of kit...

Diagnostics Program?
Has anyone written a diagnostics program for a VIC-20? Something that will test RAM/ROM, keyboard, video and audio? With the appropriate "dongle" it should probably be possible to test the serial port. If not, is anyone interested in coming up with some suggestions as to what it should inc...

I've had a bit of a hitch with the magazines. It seems as though my Grandfater inlaw took a break from reading Electronics Australia from about 1979 to 1985-6. As such, there is next to no information on the Vic-20 in the pile of magazines that I have. :( I may still try and chase up some cop...

For those with dial-up, what do you consider is an acceptable size per page? It's going to depend a bit on whether it is straight text, or includes detailed diagrams, but would 100k per page be too much? I would also include thumbnails for individual pages. Maybe the high resolution PDFs could be av...
