Re: Exactly how NOT to make a multicart for the C64

The issue is real as Eslapion says. No snake oil. The snake oil remark referred to the tool that doesnt let him use the internet, not gold plated contacts. The same tool also reported VICE as a dangerous threat some time ago, thats how useless it is :=) And all i said is that there were indeed quit...

Re: Exactly how NOT to make a multicart for the C64

I also believe that it is a good design rule to use HCT on these machines, Say what a change of heart all of a sudden... .. as it is a good design rule not to boost the chip power supplies, as you do, even beyond the maximum allowed by the manufacturer data. Hahum... recommended.jpg Somebody needs ...

Re: Exactly how NOT to make a multicart for the C64

Nobody says that HASL is better than GOLD, but to say that HASL damages the VIC20/C64 connector is bullshit! No it's not. Using capital letters, large typefaces, insults and degrading comments will not make you right. Each time that a card is removed/inserted the contacts are cleaned by the mechani...

Re: Exactly how NOT to make a multicart for the C64

(using google translator) what sadness, first he says that HASL damages the connector of the C64 and then to prove it he says that someone has ruined... THE CARD! meaningless speeches! it is clear that he knows he is wrong but he would not say it even under torture .... He can only deceive those wh...

Re: Exactly how NOT to make a multicart for the C64

Go ask Gideon why all the 1541 Ultimate carts of all versions he ever sold have gold plating. He's not some tinkerer. He has an EE degree. Jim Brain offered a multislot cart port expander for the VIC a few years back. There was a technical issue with it but it too had a gold plated connector. I gue...

Re: Exactly how NOT to make a multicart for the C64

Find me a single VIC-20 cart, C64 cart or even ISA card sold in the 1980s by a reputable company that didn't have gold plating on their edge connector. Only basement tinkerers do that. That's because they don't know better. just one? thats too easy: https://rr.pokefinder.org/rrwiki/images/2/2b/Acti...

Re: Exactly how NOT to make a multicart for the C64

"HASL is dangerous for the connectors" : It's never demonstrated... The only damages that we seen in the other thread was produced, during insertions, by abrasion of fiberglass exposed on the v-cut , so the finishing of the board is irrelevant: (HASL -> damage) = superstition . HASL could...

Re: Exactly how NOT to make a multicart for the C64

your 'badder' carts don't have gold plating on their connector ? plain copper - it was quite common for small scale productions A lot of people confuse bare copper with low grade ENIG. Bare copper is usually rusted to green after 10 years just with the humidity in the air. If your 'badder' carts da...

Re: Exactly how NOT to make a multicart for the C64

I don't even know if it's worth responding to these post but it clearly shows the level of ignorance and false assumptions prevailing in the Commodore programmer community when it comes the electrical engineering of their cherished machines. 1. All Commodore 8 bit computers use technology designed f...

Exactly how NOT to make a multicart for the C64

There is this guy in Australia selling a cart with 62 games for the C64. The cart is not gold plated (HASL) so it's a fine cartridge port destroyer and it uses 74HC logic ICs... the guys has no clue of TTL/CMOS electrical logic levels. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/1-Megabyte-62-Games-Cartridge-for-the-Co...

Re: Mist/Mistica FPGA

I think the Vic-20 core on MiSTer is perhaps a little neglected. The inter channel distortion is much exaggerated rendering it useless to my ears. for the same reason on the MiST I added a toggle for turning off the 6KHz audio filter . It made the sound too muffled, not as brilliant as in the real ...

Re: Not quite... The end of the ROM based PLA for the 64

I think in the last photo of my previous post the low voltage on probe A (!ROMH) got to 1.9V. Correct. It was a bit tricky Tring to get the best photos to post. Shortly after I managed to get a video of probe A triggering at 1.5V. I muffed it up though. I didn't set probe B to 500mV as it was for p...
